Changing from bulbs to led

Has anyone changed the bubs in the large overhead round light fixtures with four bulbs each to led lighting in the Rockwood 8285 WS. The lights are in the overhead in the bump out.

What leds did you use for replacement?

I am not familiar with your trailer so can't answer specifically but
there's been much discussion about LEDs lately. The price has come down dramatically!
LEDs that were well over $5 each can now be had for under a buck including shipping.

My question to you is are you talking about a 12v bulb or a 120v ac bulb?
Can you take a photo of the bulb or fixture with cover removed and post here?
A photo of the bulb removed from the fixture would be helpful.

I've replaced all my RV's bulbs with LED's that I got off Ebay. Direct from Hong Kong, and shipping was faster than many US dealers. I have been getting model 194 bulbs $15 for 20 bulbs.

Just replaced 20 overhead bulbs in the LaCrosse. Used 250 lumen Natural White tower type bulbs. Nice white light that is bright enough to read by. Got them from RV LED Bulbs (a division of Ocala Hitch), delivered in 3 days. Paid less than $9.00 each with free shipping, more than some other online offers, but didn't have to wait weeks for order to arrive, had a better selection and better prices than RV stores.

Bought 4 lower lumen, different styles and color to try out to determine what we really needed and wanted before ordering, used these in places where we didn't need as many lumens, like over the bed and wall lights.

One the best investments and mods for RV's, operate cooler, less converter usage and less draw on your battery.

I wish they'd just go to 100% LED on the new builds. I THINK I'm going to have the same fixture you're talking about over the dinette in my slide. The rest of the trailer has gone to LED for 2014 (except for that fixture from what I saw on one dealer's floor model). Hopefully, they were transitioning to all LED and that goes away too. Won't know until it gets here though.

Can't believe you think $9 per bulb is a good deal, Danny. 75 cents per bulb is more like it. Although the 250 lumens is pretty bright - mine are about 110 lumens.

Hello Spikedog. I agree, 9.00x20 bulbs is 180.00!! I get the cheapos from hong kong as well, but I have not as of yet found any bright enough in cool white form for .75 ea. I found 185 lumens- not bright enough. Those bulbs Daisy the Boyken are looking for are probably a 1056 bulb base, same as an older car's back up light bulb base. As far as I know, (which isn't much) there are NO 120 volt bulbs in a travel trailer. They are ALL converted through the converter to 12v DC. Randy

The 'cheapo's' from Hong Kong are quite likely made by the same manufacturer as the $9 bulbs. Not to be unAmerican (I salute your awesome CobraJet Mustang), but I think the vast majority of LED bulbs are made in China. Might as well cut out the middleman.

I have read on several forums of interference with TV signals with the LEDs. Something about ballasts? Anyone have that problem?

The bulbs in our RV are only 5 watts and doesn't give enough for long time reading. Does anyone know what the lumen rating are on these bulbs?

Sure I would have liked to paid 75 cents for bulbs, but I didn't find any that were 250 lumen natural white that would give us the brightness we wanted or needed.

$180 seems like a good investment to obtain cooler operating lights with less load on the AC, less load on the converter and battery, and a light color and brightness that is usable. We like candlelight dinners and dim romantic lights, but we also light to be able to see when we read or play cards or games. Didn't say my deal was the best out there, but was the best for us at the time.

The moral of this story is changing bulbs to LED's is doable and more than likely in many ways a smart thing to do if you want to.

Choose a bulb size and color that suits your needs and find the best price you can live with, a reliable seller and get them ordered and installed.

If it is cheap price and low light you want--that's the way to go. If it brighter light with a certain color of light you want with more cost--that's the way to go. No right or wrong way, just make it your way.

I am posting this under one of my 250 lumen Natural White colored bulbs at this time.

I have a ceiling fan in my fifth wheel and the bulbs are 120 volt halogen. And man, do they put off some heat. I went to the hardware store to find LED replacements that were $28 a piece. Need to shop around!

An update on the conversion from 921 bulbs to LED's for my overhead large circular lights. To start the lights had 3 bulbs of 921 that when they were on the generated so much heat we never used them.

Well I found a LED system that is perfect that does not generate any heat and are plenty bright.

They came from AMAZON.com and the model is 8X AMICO WHITE 24 LED panel 5050 DOME LIGHT lamp + T10, BA9S Festoon Adapter @ $4.00 each.
The led lights came with three different types plugs to fit just about any socket. The led panel has 24 leds on a card with double back tape for installation. They are also available in a 48 led panel which I think would be too bright.

The 24 LED panel gives a very bright white light with NO HEAT. Each large light I installed them in used three of the led panels.

Now my next light to change is the Halogens that are in the kitchen above the kitchen counter. They are the lights with each using H4 bulbs.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a great upgrade, LED's run sooooooo much cooler. We are happy with ours, now you can sit under one and not have your head get hot.
