Converter fuses

I have a 2013 2801QS which has been in storage for a month and the batteries are losing voltage, down to 11.4. So i charge for 2 hours with the generator with converter putting out 14.4V. I brought it home and plugged into shore power and the EMS said it was drawing 19Amps AC with only the converter on. So i charged for a day with a 6Amp portable charger. Now when plugged in to Shore power the EMS says 0 Amps AC and the batteries are at 12.5V. When reading voltage at the reverse polarity fuses the converter side of the fuse reads 14.1V and the battery side of the fuse reads 12.4V is this a normal reading for these fuses. Converter is PD4560. Never seen a fuse read different voltage on each side.

Is the fuse good? Just never heard of two different readings on the same good 12 volt inline fuse. How can that be? Maybe someone can explain.

Not possible. Converter is on a 15 amp breaker. only draws about 2-3 amps when working. You probably saw 1.9 amps AC draw.

Not possible. Voltage will be the same on both sides. Fuses don't use electricity. It's just a piece if wire inside plastic. The place to check converter output is a the large battery wire connections of the converter.

The Progressive Industries EMS has been reported to over repeat amps by as much as 1/3. So that 19 amps might really have been 13.

But, my converter is also on a 20amp breaker.

The breaker is sized to protect the wire size that it is on not the equipment it is hooked to.

I used this as an example WFCO WF8955PECB Black 55 Amps Power
It draws 8 amps under load. Probably the 2-3 I stated at idle.
Don't know what is in my trailer but it is on a 15 as is everything but the AC.
No way his was drawing 19

It will if it is blown. One side,is,reading the converter output and the other the battery. If the fuse is blown that is what you would read. Check, the fuse.

Had to move the motorhome back to storage so no shore power but will check the fuses today. There are 3 25amp fuses for the reverse polarity circuit all reading the same so all 3 would have to be blown. I'll check this weekend to see if I get the same readings with the generator. Thanks for all of the reply's, will post what I find later.

Only two fuses. One for each wire. One positive and one negative. And yes only one of the two can be blown.

Some converters have 3 - 25 amp polarity fuses, see this thread.

If you have significantly different voltages on each side of a fuse the fuse is blown.

Well I guess everyone in that thread learned something new didn't they? I'd like to see a wiring diagram to understand how and why 3 are needed. Now we need to tell people to look for two or three fuses

True. The only way to get two different readings.

So all 3 25amp fuses were blown. I recently changed out both batteries and thought that I was extremely careful to not allow any wire to not touch any place it was not supposed to. However the fuses did not blow for no reason. So after I replace the fuses I will run generator and see if everything works. Once again thanks for the reply's. This forum is great. A wealth of knowledge.

Went out to put reverse polarity fuses in today and with no AC power to the converter the voltage reading on the converter side of the fuse holder is 0 VDC and the batt side is 12.3 VDC. I went to put the 1st of the 3 fuses in and got an arc between the fuse legs. Barely touched it so didn't blow the fuse. Should I get an arc when putting the fuse in? When the converter was plugged in to shore power it was reading 14.1 VDC.

Normal if there is any load still attached to the circuit. Also normal when the "blown fuse indicator" led circuit charges. Usually the arc is small unless on a circuit that draws a fair amount of current like a fan, etc.

Only way to stop these small "fuse arcs" on 12 volt side is to disconnect battery and switch off converter power supply. I wouldn't bother unless the fuse blows immediately after you replace it. Now you have a repair issue to deal with.

Thank you TitanMike, That's what I thought but never hurts to get a second opinion.

AND, There are some converters that have four(4) reverse polarity fuses.
