CPAP use when boondocking

How do you all use a CPAP when not plugged into shore power?? I can't run my generator at night. Can I use a portable power pack, those all in one things that can jump your battery etc???

Does your machine have a transformer style power cord? That would be one with a brick/block somewhere on the cord. If so there may be options for using the house 12v system with a small step down.

Provide a photo of the power cord's labeling on the back of the brick and the port the cord plugs into.

Lots of adapters out there dependent on your machine model
ex: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Respi...8970272&sr=8-7

You will need enough solar pane capability to replenish your batteries, dependent on length of stay away from ac voltage

As noted, if you have a brick looking transformer, it probably takes 110v down to the voltage needed for the actual CPAP. Mine CPAP is 12v so I just purchased years ago a 12v power cord from the medical supply portion of my sleep doctors business. Insurance even covered part of the cost. I’ve stuck with the same brand CPAP on a couple changes o the 12v power cord works. I don’t even pull the 110v adapter cord out of the wall when putting the CPAP in the trailer

Turn Off Humidifier!

Don't forget that if you have a humidifier (water tank), you can just turn it off and leave water in it. You'll still get humidity with your warm breath all night long passing over the water in the tank. You are just not heating the water. The humidifier on my Resmed uses about 70% of the current when in use. I too have the Resmed 12 volt brick charger and it uses less current than running the CPAP through at 120volts via the inverter.

8 days without house power

I just spent 8 days in a tent under the wing of my friend's Cessna 182 at Oshkosh without house power. I had a 40 AHr LiFePO4 battery and 120 watts of solar panels. I have a Resmed CPAP and turned off the humidifier and used a plain hose so not to have it heat the tubing. Battery charged to full capacity in about 4 hours each day.

I use a DC to DC power supply so it plugged right into my battery. Worked great. I actually had enough battery capacity for 3 days in case the sun didn't shine.

USB connector, not car

I've done a lot of searching and all I can find are adapters to connect to a battery or to plug into a car lighter. I need a USB power connector. Where would I get this for my CPAP?

I don’t think you are going to find one that will power a CPAC through a USB outlet because USB outlets won’t be set up to supply enough amperage to power a CPAP device.

Most likely your CPAP is 12V; USB ports are only 5V.

No, you don't. USB is 5V, not 12V.

You need an adapter cord made by your manufacturer with a standard 12V accessory plug, and you need to make a 12V accessory power socket accessible to the plug. There are many sources for the adapter cord. See CPAP.com, for example, or your CPAP manufacturer's web site.

I added a combination 12V USB charger and accessory port at the head of our bed. We plug in the 12V adapter cords made for our CPAPs. The USB charger is strictly for convenience and has nothing to do with use of CPAP.

If you don't already have a 12V socket where you need it and don't personally have the skills required to add one, any RV technician worth hiring can do it easily.

I bought the DC power pack. Just plug into a 12v socket and runs cpap just fine. Not a lot of draw either. I have a Resmed model also.

Ain't gonna happen USB doesn't deliver enough power. I think you are going to have to equip your rig with cigarette lighter plugs off the battery somehow.

I modified my 2020 16Fq so I could use my cpap by taking out the 2 usb charge ports , on on each side of the bed and installing a vertical cigarette lighter plug in each ( 12 volt). Most cpap machines will run on 12 volt power. You may need to buy a machine specific 12 volt power cord for you machine from your supplier or amazon.Unplug the 115 volt cord and plug in the 12 volt cord both ends and give it a try. If the light above the bed goes dim - bright -dim - bright as you breath , disconnect the humidifier and try again.A booster pack from Harbor freight will also work for 2 or 3 nights. Its best to run your gen every day to keep your battery charged. My wife and I both use a cpap so we charge up the battery every day.Good luck Rob

Cpap power

I have a Bi-Pap Machine Resmed they uses a lot more energy than a cpap! Mine is putting 19-21 pounds of pressure in and needs to pump it out also! My only solution 3 years ago was a battery pack from a cpap mfgr and the best I got was 6 hours use each night! Before having to recharge it totally the next day!Very expensive and very disappointing. Sales rep said Cpaps get more time but Bipaps need more power bringing air in and taking it out! Good Luck ai will be watching! Great question!!

I have had a 12V receptacle installed near where I have my CPAP at night. This allows me to use the battery in both my 5er & TT. I use the TT more when boondocking (hunting) than I will ever use the 5er. I use a generator to recharge the TT batteries.

Be safe -

If you boondock, I'll make this suggestion.
Add solar:

400 watts of solar panels and 2 x 6 volt golf cart batteries and a small inverter (about 500 watts) will likely allow you to use the CPAP without thinking about power issues. You can always adapt your CPAP to run on 12 volts, which is better.

Solar: https://smile.amazon.com/Renogy-Sola...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Many 6 volt golf cart batteries to choose from. I bought these: https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/sligc115

Inverter: https://smile.amazon.com/BESTEK-Inve...NsaWNrPXRydWU= I hard-wired the inverter to the battery bank...it's always available. No aligator clip nonsense.

My stepson uses a CPAP, and I have plenty of 12 volt power to spare.

In cloudy weather, you can run the genny during the day to top off the batteries and have plenty to take you through the night.

CPAP Question

We had the same problem. I added an extra battery and installed an 1500 watt invertor. It worked long enough to get through the night and we used solar panels to top up the battery through the day.
