Cummins Onan

We just traded our Vengeance TT Toy Hauler for a Cherokee Wolf Pack 325 Pack 13 5th wheel. It has 2 A/C units and a compartment up front for a generator. It is already set up inside with controls for a Cummins Onan. The largest (physical) size generator that will fit the compartment is a Cummins Onan 5.5. I would like a 7kw but it will not fit the compartment. Any experience with Cummins Onan would be appreciated. I know I need the carb model not the EFI and was also wondering if I go with the 5.5 do I open up the bottom of the generator compartment for air flow? The bottom is segmented so I'm guessing that is what needs to be done.
Thanks

I had the emerald 5K onan and the bottom of the generator compartment was open to provide cooling to the generator and combustion air. Why can't you use the EFI model?

The 5.5 should be able to handle 2 ACs. You may be limited on additional power for things like microwave at same time. Most of the onan units do pull air from the bottom.
As for experience with onan generators they love to be used. They are work horses. Actually the more you run them the better they run.

Thanks, I read the spec sheet wrong the 7kw is the same demensions as the 5.5 so I'm probably going with the 7kw unit. As far as EFI verses carb, I'm not sure my rig is set up for EFI, (return fuel line). I've been reading everything I can find and that is what I'm understanding regarding EFI.

thanks I should have thought of that for the EFI I changed enough fuel pumps. 7 sounds far better then 5.5 and will run the trailer and everything in it.

we have an onan 5500 propane in our 5th wheel. yes the bottom needs to be opened for ventilation. works great. propane appears to be simpler than gas or diesel as there is no fuel pump or filter. but I have read that there is less power with propane. but we only use the generator as a backup (no dry camping, at least not yet.)
