Dead battery

Replaced our deep cycle battery yesterday. Disappointed to find battery dead again today. We just bought this 2012 Wolf Pup used. Noticed last night the power light on the radio was on and outside radio light was on. Cannot see how to shut these off without removing the fuse. How would you shut these off without removing fuse and would this be enough to kill battery overnight?

i'm not an expert on the radios but i'm wondering if a couple of radios would drain a fully charged deep cycle battery overnight. are there other loads attached to the battery? was the new battery fully charged? regardless you could add a battery disconnect switch to the battery lead. this will completely disconnect the battery from all loads. many people have done this.

Thanks...I did that and it's the radio fuse that is on all the time. When we shut the power off on the radio the power light stays on and also the outside light on radio panel. Do not know how to shut this off. Dan

You need to install a battery disconnect switch.
There are numerous parasitic power drains in modern RVs.

Or keep the trailer plugged into shore power.

If the battery's draining overnight, it's not "parasitic load", something's turned on and draining significant current. Panel lights on radio don't draw squat.

For reference, on my 2013 R-Pod 171 with everything turned off, draw is order 0.22 Amperes, and that takes a week to drain my batteries (two tired Interstate marine dual purpose 12V wired in parallel) to 50% capacity.

If you battery is draining completely overnight, Check the breakaway switch. If the cable is accidentally pulled and the plunger comes out ( or part way out), it will activate the brakes and kill the battery quickly.

Tank heaters left on could cause rapid battery drain.

An incandescent light fixture left on could do it too.

I too, have a Wolf Pup - 16FQ. We love it. In a week or so I'll post some of the mods I've done. But as for your battery problem...

These are cheap and easy to install - even for a temporary reading. You can run your main battery cable through the sensor hole up near the battery or back where it feeds into the circuit panel.

BTW - I'm not a fan of deep cycle batteries. They are more expensive and have a shorter warranty period. I use a cheap Walmart starting battery (the biggest that will fit) and get a free replacement every 3 years, or sooner if required.

We put a small 2.5 Watt solar panel on our trailer which has kept the batteries topped up over the winter while we haven't been using it! Dealer recommended this instead of taking the batteries out as have 2 6 volt ones and heavy! Not able to plug it in anywhere due to storage location. Got it on sale and cost us $15. (Can.)
