Do I need 4 6v batteries just to run coffee maker

I just purchased a 2017 Forester 2501TFS and am talking to the service dept about installing a 2000w inverter, 2 6v deep cycle batteries and 320w solar. They are concerned that the coffee pot will drain my batteries, but that seems a little exaggerated to me.

We pretty much only dry camp and don't love running the generator. I feel like with the solar panels we would be ok.

Does anyone know if the coffee pot powered with the inverter would require 4 batteries, and if my coach can fit 4 batteries?

They do take a lot of power. Have you considerred a $90 propane fueled coffee pot?

I did it for years in my old Kitt Companion 5th wheel.
I had 4x6 volt batteries (2 in series, then those parallel) had a 2000 watt inverter that had a wireless remote on/off.... we could watch TV at night, then in morning make coffee, just pay attention to living it on keeping the coffee hot, we used one of those pump coffee thermos' to keep it hot instead leaving the coffee machine plate warmer running. I had 1 180 watt solar panel and it recharge the battery during the day for the next evening of TV and coffee in the morning!!
Coffee machine take about 900 watts to brew then 300 watts to keep the coffee hot!
We even have made toast in the toaster... check the watt rating on yours tho, if less than 2000 watts good to GO!!!!!

My wife HATED for me to have to start a Genny anytime!!! so this made her very happy!! Why she hated, cause I was up first to make coffee and the Genny would wake her... NOT GOOD!!!!

Boil water on propane stove.

Make drip coffee using boiling water.

X2 on Vacuum / Thermos Pot.

Some "Mr. Coffee" machines, you could just manually pour water through the filter basket, otherwise a "Melitta" or similar coffee cone is a good thing to have. Yes, it stinks that cone filters are different than basket filters.

There are also stove-top steam espresso makers etc.

I don't think the propane pot will work, it is pretty much the same as our peculator pot. Takes forever, and I don't know about using that inside the RV.

My question is if I can mange with 2 batteries instead of 4. They are expensive and I don't know if we can fit 4.

Looks like Sams club has the best price on a 4pack of 16.4 oz cylinders at $12.26! Walmart doesn't have any in stock.

Yes! if it is 2 6 volt.... even 2 12 volts will work!

Why wouldn't it? You have a l.p. range don't you? 10 cups in 13 minutes isn't much worse than how long it takes my electric coffee maker to brew 12 cups. You can even get a refill adapter to fill from a regular tank used on a gas grill.
2 6v golf cart batteries would be sufficient I'd expect.
I doubt there's a 12cup thermos available? I could be wrong.

We live at high altitude and camp at even higher altitude, so boiling water takes forever. Our percolator takes 30 mins for 12 cups. Not interested in that.

We want to use our coffee maker, so I'm just looking for input on the 2 versus 4 batteries. Thanks!

Since the electric coffee maker requires getting the water to a boiling temperature for the water to go up the brew or perc tube, the altitude problem will be there, just the same as boiling an open pot

For "Coffee Emergency" we always have a couple cans of already-brewed stashed, but of course those are room or fridge temp ...

Some years back we tried running Mr. Coffee on an inverter, that was sort of the "last straw" for an "imported" inverter that was a LOT smaller than the 1K it claimed to be. Left it as a post turtle and went to boiling water on coleman stove.

We have a 3000 watt inverter, 2 group 27 trojan wet cell batterys. We have used this set up for years , dw makes a pot of coffee every morning, we have 400w of solar and have never run the batterys down to the point that with the solar we have had a problem, providing we have a good sunny day.
There has been a rare ocassion we have had to use the generator to charge the batterys back up. Some times we even use the toaster in the mornings and still have not had any problems to speak of.

I don't know why, but the electric Mr. Coffee only takes 10 mins for 12 cups. . My Cuisinart Grind & Brew in the house takes 5 mins. There must be a large difference in the efficiency of propane flame vs. electric heating element.

Thank you for the input on your ability to make coffee with your 12v batteies and the inverter. From what I understand a 1000w inverter is not enough for coffee so we are going with 2000 w.

I solved the elec coffee pot issue when dry camping. Cowboy coffee! And we love the taste better than brewed. Try it just once, you may have a new joy in your cup.

At higher altitude, water boils at a lower temp so it actually boils faster.

A 900W coffee maker will draw 85A @ 12V assuming 85% inverter. If it takes 30 minutes, that's around 43AH off of your 430AH Battery bank. If it takes 15 minutes, 22AH. You should be fine.

I have an old coffee peculator that makes 4 cups at a time. It is the stove top type or could be used over the campfire. Either way, it does not require a inverter, 2 or 4 six volt batteries or propane, it saves one the head aches that goes with the above. If you desire more that four cups of coffee, just make another pot.
