Dual Mode (Lead-Acid / Lithium) Converter-Charger
I had to replace my WFCO converter/charger a little while ago, and I wanted to buy one that would work now, and in the near future when I upgrade to lithium batteries. Couldn't find what I needed.
Does anyone know if there is a converter/charger available that has a multistage charging profile that would work for both lead-acid AND lithium?
All of the chargers that I have seen are for one style of battery or the other. I had thought I saw a switch selectable charger that would handle both, but can't find it now. I've seen some lead-acid chargers that the manufacturer states can charge lithium, but you need to do this manually to fake out the charger - not a great solution.
Anyone know of one? Thanks!

Hi, Ray from Love Your RV just posted a video with a new WFCO model that will auto-detect lead or lithium and adjust the charge mode accordingly

You don't mention the amperage of your system. It would be helpful to know the model number of your current converter or your Power Center as the converter may be part of this. You may need to replace the Power Center. This is not super expensive nor difficult to do.

I looked into the best converter before the holidays, sent an email with some questions and never got a response. Found the new WFCO Auto detect stuff and think i will wait until its available.

It's a WFCO 9855. I already replaced it, just looking for recommendations for future. Thanks.
p.s. - when the converter craps out and you're on the road and can't wait for a part to get shipped and have to rely upon local vendors - it is VERY expensive.

The power max boondocker converter charger will handle FLA,AGM and Lithium batteries . they have settings you can change charge rate and time and work for all batteries . one thing to consider is when towing and hook to truck you can damage alt trying to charge lithium batteries with out some type of charge controller so as to not over work you truck alt

I called up WFCO (877-294-8997 in case you want to give them a ring) was connected to their tech support, and told them what I wanted to achieve. He said that if I wanted the ability to charge both lead acid as well as LiFePO4, then to go with the WF-8955LiS. If I am only interested in LiFeO4 moving forward, then the WF8950L2-MBA is the one that I would want.
In the WF-8955LiS it has a switch that lets you choose between lithium or lead acid. In the lead acid mode it will 3-stage charge at a maximum of 55 amps. In the lithium mode it will 2 stage charge at a maximum of 50 amps.
In the WF8950L2-MBA, it is a 2-state charging cycle at a maximum of 50 amps.

Here's a link to the manual for WFCO's WF-8955LiS. If you open it up, page 7 is where it describes in detail how the lead acid 3-state charging profile operates and the lithium 2-state charging profile description starts on page 8.

That's what Amazon 2-day shipping is for. Had a converter sent to me in Ohio. Had some ABS pipe fittings sent to me in Virginia. Other stuff too, that I can't remember.
