E19FBS - Secret to turning on TV

Need a nudge in the right direction. This past week we camped out and thought we would use the TV. Nothing. TV does not turn on.

I believe I have all the correct switches on, and the radio above the TV turns on.

All lights work, as well as the refrigerator, microwave, outside lights, etc.

Is there another hidden switch or breaker which is unique to the TV circuit.

Dealer where we got the unit is of no help.

That's a brand new rv and the dealer should be able to service it.
Do you have any lights at all working on the front of the tv? Other than checking the circuit breakers and making certain it's plugged in at the back, there's not much you can do. Has it ever worked?

Have you checked if there's power to the outlet it's plugged into, with a multimeter?
Are you using the remote to turn it on or the power button on the tv?

Dealer does not have any qualified techs. They are just sales people.

That's my next step. If it's not to hot tonight (supposed to get up to 97 today), I was going to take the trusty Simpson 260 in and see if there is any power to the end of the cable which plugs into the TV, or to the jack on the wall where the cord plugs in (cigarette lighter socket).

It just seems odd that everything would work except for the TV.

Do you have an invertor in your trailer? Maybe its off and maybe the TV circuit is on that?

Sounds like you have a 12 v TV check fuses first . find something else to plug into the socket and see if that works if it does then tv cord if not then a fuse somewhere in unit

1. Has this TV ever worked?
2. Is it a 110 volt or 12 volt powered TV?

I’m asking how it’s powered because of your last sentence
“on the wall where the cord plugs in (cigarette lighter socket.)

My 32" Insignia (120v) TV failed shortly after we started camping in our new trailer. Can you run an extension cord directly to the TV and see if it works? Or remove the TV and plug it in at home? I waited almost 3 months for the dealer to replace or repair the 32" dumb TV. They finally replaced it with another 27" dumb TV. By then, I had already bought a 32" Amazon Fire TV, which is far more useful.

No service department? You could always get in touch with FR and see if they'll authorize a mobile repair tech.

But before you do that, you need to answer kenandterry's questions.
There are two different t ypes of tvs in rvs. Our tv runs off 120 and we can only use it when plugged into shore power or on a generator. We have friends with tvs that run of 12v which runs off the battery and that will run anytime (although they do have to make certain their battery is charged.)

If it runs off 120, you can use the suggestion to test it with an extension cord.

Some answers to questions...
It got up to 99 degrees here, and in my senior years I don't do well in heat. But, I handle -10 just fine. Northern European genes.

Sounds like you have a 12 v TV check fuses first. - Hmmm... I'll have to check that. I assumed the radio (above the TV) and the TV were on the same circuit. Perhaps they are on separate fuses, which I'm thinking is the panel below the refrigerator.

Do you have an invertor in your trailer? Maybe its off and maybe the TV circuit is on that? - The TV seems to be powered from a DC cord which has a cigarette lighter end. As I was typing this, I recall that there are cigarette light plugs which do have fuses in the heads of the plug. That's another area to check.

1. Has this TV ever worked? 2. Is it a 110 volt or 12 volt powered TV? - Never turned on the TV until we tried last week, that's when it was discovered. It has to be +12VDC as I can't imagine a 120VAC circuit being on a cigarette lighter plug and M4.5 male plug which plugs into the TV. I don't see any switches on the back of the TV.

No service department? You could always get in touch with FR and see if they'll authorize a mobile repair tech. - I might do that. Both employees who showed up on the battery switch escapade admitted they were "trying to help" but they knew nothing about wiring and when the problem couldn't be fixed, they shrugged and left. The one admitted he sold cars previous to working for the dealership. So I may have to see if FR has someone else in NW Ohio who does service.

When the temp drops I'll get out there again, but right now it's just too hot for me to cope with. By Friday it's supposed to be down in the 70s again. It's 93 right now, just before 8PM.

Isn't that the sad and ugly universal truth?
