Most brake controllers are for one two or three axles all in one.
Brake controller will have wiring instructions and are pretty simple to install.

Prodigy makes a nice controller.

Depending on the year and whether your truck came with a tow package, the brake controller may be plugged in with the optional pigtail harness.

Motorhomes commonly tow and may have a plug in harness. If you could provide the year and make, perhaps someone on here can give you specific info.

I did the setup on my 99 Suburban after watching the videos and purchasing parts from etrailer.com. I am using the Prodigy P2 controller which allows for multiple axles.
