I am getting the new fiver ready for the upcoming season. Yesterday I began installing the Hughes Autoformer EMS. I cut the incoming cable and discovered that it is not 6 gauge, stranded 4 wire like I expected. It is 6/3 with ground. The 3 wires are stranded but the ground is solid conductor - - looks like 12awg. (see pic)
The problem I am having is that the 12 gauge ground wire seems to be too small for the lugs on the EMS. The ferruled 6 gauge wires fit into the lugs and tighten fine but the small 12 gauge ground wire keeps coming loose. The only thing I can figure is that when I tighten down the holding screw it just pushes that small wire off to the side and doesn't bind it in place. I thought about putting a ferrule on it to increase it's diameter but googling tells me that ferrules should not be place on solid conductors.
?????
Does anyone have any advice on how to approach this problem? Thanks.
