EMSHW30C after transfer switch

I have a new Progressive Industries EMSHW30C and am about to install it. I am considering installing after the transfer switch so it protects both from shore power and the generator.

Any good reason not to do this?

Yes you'd want it after the transfer switch.
So your protected both ways.

If you install after transfer switch it might not protect your transfer switch control wiring from 240 ac in an accidental shore power hook up. I would find out for sure how your unit is wired before installation.

But then he'd need two ems units if before transfer switch.

Which is the lessor of two evils?

That is up to him, I just mention this so he is aware of the possible issue. If he knows for sure that it will not affect the transfer switch control wiring because it is controled from the generator side, then it is fine. Someone needs either to trace it out or have an actual wiring diagram for this unit.

That seems like a good point. I guess I need to open it up and see if there is a wiring diagram on the unit.

Where do most people mount theirs? I guess if I had to, I would put two units in. Just not right away. Obviously the important thing for now is to protect from funky shore power.
