Factory Installed Battery Disconnect

Hi,

We recently purchased a FR Wildcat 312QBX 5ver with a factory installed battery disconnect switch above the control panel in the pass through storage. Dealer tech said this battery disconnect will break power to everything inside the trailer...which it does appear to do.

By observation, we've figured out that some of the outdoor edge lights still work as well as the landing gear and stabilizing jacks.

Power to the awning is also cut by the battery disconnect...but according to the awning manual the awning should not work when connected to the TV with the ignition in the on position. My awning will unless the battery disconnect is pulled...so not sure the awning safety is working correctly. Anybody have experience with this feature?

We also would like to be certain that the emergency braking system is not affected by the battery disconnect switch and will function no matter which way the battery disconnect is configured. Has anybody tested this feature and already found the answer?

Thanks,

I'm told the emergency brake system is always "hot" or always energized regardless of the BD switch position. I never saw anything in our owners manual saying not to travel with it in the Off position, but as we all know, those manuals aren't always full of correct information.

The battery disconnect on our unit deenergizes the fuse panel. The loads connected directly to the battery are unaffected. For us, that includes
  • Tow vehicle battery
  • Emergency trailer brakes
  • Alta System
  • Hydraulic Pump
  • Propane Detector
  • Main Door Foot Light
There are a couple of fuses by the battery I have not identified yet, so our list will get bigger. With the Alta system powered, I can operate our awning and slides. It will drain the battery quickly though.

It varies greatly by model and, evidently, by whoever wired it that day. My CO detector goes when the disconnect is off. My tongue jack and stabilizers will still work, but the slide and awning won't. The brakes SHOULD be wired direct, but I'd check to make sure. Turn off the disconnect and pull the pin. If you can roll more than a few feet before they lock up, it's run through the disconnect. Better to know for sure.
