Finished my inverter installation

When i installed my 2kw inverter i hadn't decided on a good way to just plug in the TT's power cord. Far a temporary solution I just put a cord cap on some heavy duty 10/4 SO cord I had laying around. Ysed it that way for a few trips but wasn't happy having to leave a compartment door open.

Found a waterproof receptacle on Amazon that was perfect. Ran the cord down through the floor (3/4" hole holds wire nice and snug). Installed receptacle on end of A'frame.

TT power cord plugs in with all out of the rain and no need to leave compartment door open. Bracket is just as 7-wire receptacle bracket I had in my shop.

Receptacle needs to be rotated 90 degrees so cord hangs down but that's for another day. It works fine as is.Click image for larger version

Very nice looking. Just so I am straight, the plug you mounted to the frame is from the output of the 2K inverter you added. Then you just plug in the regular camper cord to that. Is that correct? Jay

Yes. Saved me the time, trouble, and expense, of running 120 volt wiring 2/3 the length of the TT where there really wasn't an easy route, no need for a transfer switch, and super simple.

A note for the "technical guys". Yes, the outlet I am using is just a 15 amp standard outlet. Since it's rated for up to 1800 watts and the largest load I intend to use on the Inverter is only 1350 watts (microwave) it's more than enough for my purposes. To install a regular 30 amp RV type outlet would require a separate outlet box to enclose it and waterproof fixtures are $$$$$$$$.

This receptacle only requires that I insert the included rubber plug to seal against any road spray.

About the only change I would make is adding a sticker that says, "hey dummy, turn off the converter!"

Because I'm that dummy...

Good point.

I thought the inverters for trailers had built in AC pass though, or something similar to that.

Some do, some don't.

Depends, but the few I've looked at that had a bypass feature, they were also chargers.

OK, thanks. I haven't really looked. I got 1k inverter that doesn't, but then it wasn't RV specific.

I have a similar setup for my Fifth Wheel. I was able to run the cord up through my Propane cabinet from the bottom, as they are open to the outside, and through a port in the battery compartment to plug directly into the inverter. No cabinet doors open. Everyone asks how I plug into myself. Just have to remember to turn off the fridge electric, and the converter so I don't waste energy trying to charge myself. (Much like the power strip shown above). I really like the remote switch on my inverter that allows me to turn it on and off from inside. It has a light telling me it's on, so less prone to leaving it on. As most know, the inverter has a parasitic draw, even when you are not using it, but it's on.
