Fuse Popped

I had an odd thing happen when I hooked up my 2019 Sequoia to my 2016 Forrest River 171RBXL. I popped the inline 30 amp fuse to the power jack. I had my 2018 Tundra hooked up to it last year, it had the factory trailer set up built in, where as my Sequoia doesn’t, I have to get a brake box put in. I was wondering what the heck happened? That shouldn’t have busted that fuse? Any thoughts?

was your trailer battery at full power? have you charged it before you used the power jack? If the battery voltage was low then that would make the trailer breaker blow. OPen the battery caps and check that the water/acid is up to the level of the split ring inside the battery case. Only use distilled water to bring the level up.

If the fuse for the trailer jack blew, there is short between the fuse and the trailer jack or the jack itself has failed.

Or the jack is locked up and the fuse did it’s job.

My guess is you came to the end of the jack and held the button down too long.

I did the usual, hooked up and used my power jack. Never had an issue

There was never an issue between the two vehicles?

Im an “old”-mechanic, battery level not an issue. Thinking more on the lines on a brake pedal push pops the fuse due to a over energized system

over energized? Is that like over-voltage?

considering that the power jack on the trailer is powered by the trailer battery I would think that the battery voltage might be the first place to look... you do have a voltmeter to test the voltage don't you? If battery voltage is low then amps get high and fuses blow...

I popped the inline 30 amp fuse to the power jack.

but I guess the problem is now solved...
