Which would you rather have: A generator that will provide power day or night, cloudy weather, etc. or a solar system that puts out almost nothing in bad weather or at night?

Ditto on solar. Solar is on the roof, I get power even in the rain. Just like you can get sunburned on a cloudy day, I can get 10 amps in the rain.

Whenever, I need to more battery power, I just run the generator to recharge at 100 amps.

So... your answers aren't really 'which'... but rather you need both.

My hope is the OP can read through all the posts and make a determination which opinion comes closest to providing the needed information.

Some posts include real world experiences with many hours of use and others include posts with information like "I've never used it yet but it was a on sale and a good deal the day I walked into ZapcoMart Depot so I bought it."

I'm not quite ready for the popcorn on this one but the Jiffy-Pop is near the stove...

I broke out the popcorn on the first post knowing this could turn into a 100 post thread! The OP asked about a specific generator and all he wanted to do is charge his batteries. I believe he stated that 3 or four times. He can do that with any low cost 2000W inverter generator. But you are right about these threads being a hoot! I enjoy reading every post.

My generator is built-in. This hot sommer I had to run it a few times for the A/C.

Also, I get output even on cloudy days. The last trip, I was getting 100W output on a very foggy morning.

Last time I brought my generator was on a two week trip where I had 4 rainy days. Generator never was turned on.
I've upgraded to two 100 Ah Battleborns but don't have the same amount of solar as you. I have a 160 watt "suitcase" I've wired in series and feed through a Victron Smart MPPT controller. Even on cloudy days I get 75-100W of power. The reason I get that is that I can adjust my panel orientation for max output at any given time of the day.

So far this year (after installing the LiFePo's) I haven't needed to use the generator to charge batteries. The small Solar unit has been adequate enough that I start almost every evening at 100% charge. Exception being the one trip I took where it rained for three days. Even then I got some power from the panels and still didn't really need to run the generator for charging. If I started it for the microwave I'd just let it run until I was finished with dinner so it at least got the oil warm and whatever charge that it put in the batteries was a bonus.

Since April I've burned a total of 2.5 gallons of gas in the generator which is is just over 10 hours total.

If my generator ever poops out I may just replace it with another BB battery and another panel for my portable setup. I can run up to 75 volts into my controller at a max of 15 amp. I'm sure I'll "find" enough sun to keep me in electricity.

We've been using one these for three yrs now. Couple hundred hrs and no issues. Still starts on first tug of the recoil. Tad louder than the RED and BLUE gens but not obtrusive. It runs our 13.5K AC without issue.

Keep in mind the difference between 54 dB and 64 dB is logarithmic ..... X10 times louder!

Since our ears are also logarithmic, what we perceive with 10dB is twice as loud. 10dB is 10x the sound pressure so that part is correct.

Not even close to 10x as loud.
The sound intensity is 10x, but the perceived sound that a human hears is 2x (twice as loud).
