We have a 2015 coachmen catalina 243rbs. Going dry camping Labor day weekend, DO NOT HAVE the $1000 Honda Generator. Have a small 800 Watt generator, this battery charger

Can you just use the small generator that I have, plug the charger into the generator and clip the battery leads directly to the battery, or will this cause any harm to anything in the camper?
Any help and info is greatly appreciated!
P.s. Was told by a friend thats all he has done for 10 years, allowing him to not have to buy the expensive generator.
