Mike, here's a simple list:
If you plan on using the generator in a campground, get an INVERTER generator. To run everything BUT the a/c, a 2000w inverter generator will be fine. If you want to run the a/c, then a minimum of a 3000w inverter generator is needed.
If you will only use it at home or boondocking away from others, any cheap 3500w open-frame contractor-style generator will work.
Campgrounds have strict generator hours and rules. Virtually none of them allow running generators overnight.
The bigger the wattage, the larger and heavier the generator is. A 2000w inverter generator will weigh around 50lbs. A 3000w inverter generator will weigh between 75lbs and 100lbs.
