Generator only starts and runs when the camper is on.

My Generator on my 2013 Forest River Sunseeker only starts and runs when the camper engine is on. As soon I I shut it off the generator shuts off..I am not sure why this is but any help is appreciated.

Does the generator have it's own battery? Check the charge on the generator battery.

No it either runs off the rv battery or aux batteries which are all charged.

don't know the model of generator but I found out ours needs a 12 volt power source to run it. it makes 110 volts. it does not make the 12 volts it needs to run on. from what you say it is not getting 12 volts from your house batteries. when you run the engine on it is supplying the required 12 volts. check the wiring from the generator to your house batteries. there is something not allowing 12 volts to get from the batteries to the generator. or the batteries are too low to run the generator and the converter is not recharging them when the generator is running (open battery disconnect switch?). put a voltmeter across the 12 volt inputs to the generator and see if you have any voltage (one hot lead, the other is most probably the chassis ground. you aren't getting 12 volts needed to run the generator

I think CHICKDOE has id'd the problem.
I have the same RV. Mine has an Onan RV4000 (Noisy sucker)

My trouble is my House batteries losing their charge and not starting the generator, but when I start the truck engine, I can start the generator and it will keep running once the truck engine is shut off and it will charge the house batteries.
I think I may have solved my issue with a solar panel.

Check to make sure battery disconnect switch is not disconnected.
