Gfci outlets not working

2017 Forest River Salem, 29 ft. All GFCI outlets not working. The reset is in the bathroom. Will not reset, not getting any power. All breakers ok, flipped on and off, but not tripped. Plugged into power, battery was charged prior to putting 8nto compartment. fuses ok. Replaced GFCI in bathroom, still no power, will not reset. Looked online, saw Forest River does not have wiring diagrams??? What to do next?

According to info here…..

You joined the forum just this month, and this is your first post. You’re reporting troubles with a 2017 Salem. So, did they ever work? Did you just buy this rig? Has it ever worked before? Have you taken the wires off at the rear of the GFCI and proven power at this location?

This trailer was bought new. Everything worked fine until we set it up this year. It is only used 4 months of the year and stored inside the rest of the time. It was not used last year due to covid. We did not check the wires for power, just assumed with the receptacle not resetting, or working, no no power.

Is it only the GFCI outlets that are not working? Are the non-gfci receptacles working?
Do other 120 volt appliances work (A/C, etc.)?

Using a multimeter, verify you have power coming out of the breaker labeled “GFCI”. Maybe that breaker is bad.

We thought it was just the GCFI, but it may be others. Hard to say for sure without a wiring diagram to see. AC, refrigerator both working. Outlets down are bathroom, outside, kitchen island where sink is, both sides of the sofa.
Thanks for any ideas. Will check the GFCI breaker. I didn't mention the mice had run of the house for almost 2 years - maybe something got chewed.

What about the microwave?

Do you have a cheap voltmeter that you can use to make ay voltage measurements? This type of problem cannot be solved merely by looking at the wiring... at some point you have to verify that you are getting 110 VAC into the circuit that is bad.

Any hardware store or Harbor Freight will be able to supply an under $10 volt meter... you don't need anything more expensive then that.

Watch a youtube video on how to use the meter if that is an obstacle.

I would start by pulling the GFCI plug in the bathroom out of the wall and verify that AC voltage is present or not at the input on the rear of the plug.

These GFCI outlets are daisy-chained together, so if the first does not have power then the last one in the line will also not have power.

You may also want to pull out from the wall the breaker box to see if you do not have a loose or possibly chewed wire going into the breaker that controls that circuit.

A wiring diagram would be a plus but is not necessary to fix the problem that you have.

Not sure about microwave. Unit is 30 miles away. Going over today. Thanks!

Most of the items you listed in post #6 as being down should be on the GFCI circuit except for possibly those both sides of the sofa which are probably not near any source of water. The microwave, the electric side of the water heater and of the refrigerator should not be on a GFCI circuit. Use a toaster or lamp or radio to plug in outlets near the bed. Let us know if they and the microwave have power.

Sounds like a breaker at the panel. And it’s easiest to check

Gfi will not reset with anything plugged in to any outlets down line. Unplug everything and try reset again.

GFCI will reset with a load on, unless one of the items actually does have leakage to ground, they won't reset without power to them.

Is the light on the GFCI outlet lit? If it has power to it and is tripped this should be on.

I would start at the breaker panel but be very careful the 120V side is deadly if not careful and know what you are doing. A voltmeter is a virtual necessity for many electrical issues.

It sounds like mice damage is a real possibility, finding could be difficult.

Had that problem once. Power cord from supply to camper had a dead leg and power only to non-GFCI recepticle
Suggest you check that you have power at supply recepticle. If you do, plug in power cord and check that you are getting 120V at both legs.

X2 on checking power cord. Mine recently had loose wires that wouldn’t allow gfci to reset.

When you replaced the GFCI in the bathroom did you wire it back exactly as the wires came off the old one? I once thought I did, but I didn't. Might also check for a reset switch on your inverter if you have one.

Missing reset.
Sometimes there are two on the same line and they fight with each other.
Sometimes there is a GFI breaker with GFI receptacle.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We found the problem was with the GFCI receptacle. When the new one was put in, as part of our troubleshooting, the wires were not connected correctly. Once it was discovered and re-wired, all receptacles now work. So the culprit was that outlet. Thanks!

Never seen that. As long as the downstream outlets aren't damp and don't have defective (dangerous) loads, I've always been able to reset the GFCI.
