Good Battery for Camper
Gang, I purchased a Wolf Pup camper trailer a year ago and the battery that came with the purchase has died. It has a dead cell.
So I am shopping.....
Actually I want to upgrade and go to two batteries. I want decent batteries, but am not paying $300 a piece.
Can I find decent deep cell's for about $100 a piece?
What do you recommend and where can I find a smokin deal?

Granted, they are not Trojans, but the true deep cycle (golf cart) batteries From Smas Club are working well for us and the price point is good.

I should have said.... the battery has to fit in a plastic battery box on the tongue of the trailer. I have room to fit two, side by side.
Those Golf Cart batteries are awesome, but they are massive.
........

Nope, GC2 6v golf cart batteries have the same footprint as Group 24 12v batteries, they are just a little taller.

If you plan on doing a lot of dry camping or boondocking.

Dry Camping/Boon Docking is about all we do......
Plenty of Forest in Colorado to choose from and our little camper can get about anywhere with our 4x4 truck.
So two 6 volt Golf Cart Batteries..... Are they better than two, 12 volts?

yes, they are, unless you get into very high priced (true deep cycle AGM or the like) 12 vDC batteries. We installed solar powered street lights at some boat ramps, when I was working. 2 6 vDC golf cart batteries in series out performed three 12 vDC series 27 batteries in our application. In the winter, when sun angle was low, and duration was shorter, the 12vDC batteries would not keep the light on until morning, the 6's would. We retrofitted to 6 vDC Trojans at all ramps, and never looked back.
Make sure you have all LED lights while you are at it.

Nothing wrong with those GC2 Duracell. They will work just fine for boon docking, decent price too.

Get the slightly more expensive E-GC2 batteries from Sam's Club. They are heavier which means thicker lead plates, have slightly more capacity, and should last a bit longer.

We have the gc2 batteries. No complaints. Last much longer than the stock 12v battery and can be found everywhere around the country if you need a new one right now. For $90 each, it seems like good money spent.

I've seen this application where the lid for the battery box would not fit "properly" on top of the battery box. The lid tended to sit on the battery posts. IF you have the strap that comes with most battery boxes then just strap the lid on. After all it is plastic, will not short out the battery at the posts and does provide protection for the top of the battery.

Sorry, we don't have any Sam's Clubs in our state, so I didn't know what they sell. But theirs are always recommended.

That's not a "true" deep discharge battery. It'a hybrid and will lose more capacity when discharged to 50% vs one that is made to deep discharge.

I use 2 size 27 West Marine deep cells in my 5er and the last 2 also. Insist before removing from lot when buying new.
