Honda EU2000i and EU2000i companion
Hello from Kingwood, TX. Our home flooded during Hurricane Harvey. I have two Honda inverter/generators that were totally submerged for about two hours. They have been drying out for about three weeks. I have not tried to pull them through to try to start them. Do you think they will be fixable or should I just throw away the $2,000.00+ and buy some new ones?
Bob

1. Remove the air filter and drain any water in the intake tract.
2. Remove the spark plug and then slowly crank the engine with the pull starter until no water at all comes out of the spark plug hole.
3. Reinstall the parts and see if it will run. If so, shut it down and drain the oil and gasoline and refill with new.
Any Honda Power products dealer can work on it for you.

+++1...you may have to do multiple oil changes.

SO Sorry to hear about the flooding. I cannot even imagine.
But the generators will be fine See there is that positive note.
As Bluepill said in the proper order.
1. Drain the oil and gasoline and refill with new.
2. Remove the air filter and drain any water in the intake tract. Make sure air filter is clean and dry.
3. Remove the spark plug and then slowly crank the engine with the pull starter until no water at all comes out of the spark plug hole. Make sure spark plug is clean.

I think you'll be ok. I would remove as much plastic as possible to ensure that all water is gone especially on electronics.
Carb needs to be drained of water-assume it got flooded. With it removed, remove float bowl, remove water if any, and clean with some good carb cleaner.
Mix about 3 oz of 2 storke oil in one gallon gas and add to the generator's gas tank. The 2 stroke oil will help lube things up a bit better. Don't worry, it won't hurt a thing.
I would change oil at least 3 times. Once before starting, once after 15-20 minutes of running, and then a final time. Use cheap oil for the first two oil changes.
GOod luck. I think you'll be ok.

Not sure how the inverter on an IG is designed but if it was a motor I would not run it until the coils were “meggered” / checked for insulation resistance. Powering up wet or damp coils is bad.
With motors, you don’t want the “magic smoke” to get out of a motor or it’s FUBAR. Same might apply to IG set.

Thanks. I’m in the middle of doing all the suggested things.
I’ll let you all know what happens. If all else fails, I found out that my local Honda motorcycle shop can work on them.
