Honda EU2200 Sales Stop January 2020

Just saw a post on the Airstream forum. Apparently there is a new sales hold on the EU2200 generators. From that forum:
"Apparently there is an issue if/when water (especially salt water, not sure how that happens) getting into the inverter and can cause a short."
"Salt is conductive, if it is vaporized and lands on the circuit board, the salinity will allow circuits to conduct energy where it doesn't belong."

I'm not bashing Honda's, just want fellow FROGs users to be aware of the possible issue...

I was just curious if you have any hard evidence, other than a forum post. All I can find on any recalls for Honda EU2200s is https://www.consumerreports.org/reca...er-generators/

All the online sites I checked seem to be currently selling these models.

I agree with NMWildcat. Please provide links/evidence, not hearsay.

First off, it's almost always stated by generator mfr's that they shouldn't be exposed to rain, etc, not just Honda's.

If there is a true "sales stop" it's possible that Honda has received some information regarding improperly insulated circuit boards. Certainly possible that mistakes were made and now they are trying to determine if any defective units made it into inventories. Easier to identify and remedy before failures occur in the hands of customers.

This all assumes that the report is accurate.

FWIW, many generators are sold in areas that affected by power interrupting storms. Lots of flying water, sometimes salty, and they may have uncovered an unexpected problem. This might explain how they could become interested in water contamination on a wide scale.

“Please provide links/evidence, not hearsay”. Hearsay is admissible evidence, sometimes. Perhaps you are requesting a primary or even secondary authority?

Best I can do quickly. My local full line dealer for Honda is Wiengartz Power Equipment. I priced the 2200's there a few months back. At the moment, they are NOT listing the 2200's on their website. Also checked Home Depot they list the 1000, and 3000. the 2200's are noticeably absent...
Similar situation on the CampingWorld site, no 2200's. (Not that I'd buy one from them)

Yep, you might be on to something here. Some major sites don't list them at all, and others list them but say backordered or out of stock. Looks like you can actually buy them in Amazon and eBay. Even Northern Tool says unavailable now, when earlier I swear it let me put it in the shopping cart.
Odd that there is no statement from Honda or any of it's major suppliers that I can find.

If truly a recall you have to work with the CPSP and perform a review of your assessment and resolution before you can actually perform the recall. You also have to do a joint press release which means lawyers have to agree on wording. This takes time because they like words.

You can however stop sales while performing this review...ask me how I know

https://www.cpsc.gov/Business--Manuf...call-Checklist

You get stuck at the fifth bullet when fixing because they want to review your fix and plans.

Stop sale for EU2200i

Hi guys, stumbled upon this thread while trying to source a EU2200i generator. I can confirm that in Kingston ON the local Honda dealer (Kingston MotoSport Plus) has a stop sale for the EU2200i model. That was as of Friday, Feb 7th.
