How to jack camper with a dead battery

Here's my scenario I see coming. Camping in a national park with no power.
Time to hook-up tow rig comes and battery is dead.
No manual crank on camper.

Will the truck/camper power link power the hitch jack?

You will get some juice thru the 7 pin connector, but I don't know if it is enough to run your jack.
Worst case attach jumper cables from the truck battery to the rv battery.

Your first rule of thumb should be - don't drain your batteries down to dead. It will shorten their life.

Yes the tow vehicle will charge them through the 7 pin, but jumpers would go faster. Larger wires on the jumpers. Also, motors don't like low voltage which will drive up amps which will make them warm. You'll shorten their life as well, if you do it enough. You'll need to be patient and get some juice into the batteries.

Evey electric tongue I've ever seen, has a manual feature.
Some have a crank, on others you use a socket wrench.
Have you looked at the jack's manual?

Agreed, I have never seen an electric tongue jack without a manual feature. Check the jack's manual.

However if still not able to find one attach jumper cables from the truck battery to the RV battery.

Next step, buy a new Electric jack that clearly has a manual way of use as well like Bulldog

My rig will drive the jack through the 7 pin.

When this happened to me. Instead of using the manual crank I did hookup to truck and it worked. It is all part of the learning experience. Good luck.

My OEM tongue jack was a machine screw type and when it died about three years in it was all I could do using "arm-strong power" to raise the tongue with the crank they supplied, partially because the crank went into the top of the jack and it was difficult to get leverage.
I replaced it with a ball-screw jack...higher weight capacity and smaller motor, so less amperage needed to run it. After mounting it I tried the manual crank and lifting the tongue was no-sweat easy.
If you ever need to replace your tongue jack I highly recommend getting a ball-screw type.

Invest in a portable generator, a 1000 watt will supply enough power to run 12v slide outs and jacks. This portable is good at home as well for power outage.

I have used one of the small lithium jumper batteries to get mine to function. Connect directly to the trailer battery. Worked great and got me out of a jam.

Every dealer in my area does not install batteries until the R/V is purchased.

Up to that point, when showing a unit or moving a unit, the dealer simply attaches the 'lot truck' to the R/V via the 7 pin plug and raises/lowers the jack and extends/retracts the slides. I've witnessed this on dozens of units.

You should expect the same results.

Check the top of the jack for a rubber grommet, under that grommet is where the manual crank goes.

The jack should work when plugged off your TV 7-pin. But as said above, there should also be a manual option. When I store my camper, I remove the batteries (and the LP tanks). A few weeks ago, I decided to see if anything would work plugged into my truck. All 12v items work without the coach batteries, i.e., interior lights, slide, tongue jack, stabilizers, and water pump.

I keep a bottle jack in my truck for tire changes. It can easily jack up the tongue of the trailer in a pinch. But yes, most of the ones I've seen to have a manual option.

thanks all!

I will go in search of the manual option, and thanks for all the helpful comments!

Found it! But the optional bike rack blocks access to the drive. Can't get a socket on it, blocked, and can't reach the recessed drive with a wrench. Bad design I would venture to say.

Wink I did it!!

I keep my Travel Trailer in storage of the winter, I've only had it a year, I always disconnect the ground on the battery due to things like the radio clock that keeps ticking. Yesterday I went to go hitch up after the long winter, and connected the battery....nothing. So being of the female persuasion I figured I just needed to stop and go buy a battery, it was getting close to rush hour traffic and I didn't want to be delayed much more. I figured there has got to ba a way to lift this hitch, sure enough I found the little rubber grommet on the top of the electric jack, searched the one exterior storage compartment, and there it was, the tool I needed. It was quite easy to operate. My battery was Bad, as I expected.
