I feel the voltage

the other day I was adjusting the wdh brackets on the trailer frame and I could feel a tingle in my hands, tt is on concrete, I had flip flops and socks on standing in the grass, plugged into shore power 30amp down to 110 with a adaptor, so took a volt meter and measured from the tt frame to the ground and found 57 volts, no wonder it tickles, seems like a poor ground problem any idea from a electrician?

Let's HOPE he means 30a R/V 110v outlet to 15a adapter and NOT 30a dryer/welder 220v outlet to 15a adapter!

Commonly referred to as "hot skin" condition (actually the whole chassis) and yes typically that is a wiring issue.

*If* you are comfortable testing electrical circuits check the outlet for proper ground and that hot and neutral aren't reversed. Check the same after the adapter and at the coach end of the shore power cord.

There is a sticky under the electrical forum for just this issue.

Turn off the main breaker in the panel. Does this solve the problem? If not the short is in the incoming wiring. If it does solve the problem then the short is on a branch circuit. Troubleshoot those one at a time.

I'll spare the deep details unless you care to hear them. This is not unusual. It's a grounding issue somewhere between the panel box and your trailer, possibly within the trailer. You need a GFCI outlet where you plug it in for safety in the event too much current flows outside the intended circuit (that being you.) It will shut off within milliseconds if this happens. And as an added measure of safety wear fully enclosed shoes and avoid standing outside and touching the metal portions of the frame. Even further you can have a grounded electrical service closer to the point where you plug it in. Code in your area may require this.

You mentioned it was a 2 prong outlet when you really need one that's got a dedicated ground (3 prong.)

Have an electrician handle this for you if your not comfortable taking care the issue. Your municipality may require one to do the work anyway.

We keep this below as a sticky in this same subforum your thread is in. Mike Sokol, who is the absolute guru on these matters (and a forum member aka jmsokol) has much information on this.

Please read the following from Mike:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...-rv-89191.html

It will tell you how to find and correct your ground issue. We have this happen a lot.

If Mike sees this, he may chime in.

Here is a direct link to his great website:

If your garage outlet is two prong, it may allow your adapter to be plugged in incorrectly (reversed) if the adapter was modified.

What 30a to 15a adapter are you using?

I've never seen one that didn't have a ground prong on it making it impossible to insert it into a two prong outlet unless the ground pin was removed.

Two prong means you have no ground.

I would replace the garage outlet with a good 15A outlet wired correctly and test again.

FYI...be aware this is not always a good idea with a RV. Often the GFCI in the RV will trip when plugged into another GFCI. While your logic is spot on just be aware there is often (but not always) issues with this.

I understand the aggravating nature of GFCI/Arc Fault breakers and outlets. I've not had any issues with the 3 travel trailers I've had through the years yet. They certainly aren't a fix for bad wiring. But if something does become an issue it will catch it before you do.

I suppose if you can use one do, and if your converter, inverter, or other GFCI outlets cause issues well I suppose you don't have much of a choice.

I don't have a choice (technically) in my county.

BTW as you can see I'm new to this forum. We have a new Forest River trailer now, so "Hello!"
