I'm having electrical issues with my Rockwood

Hello everyone new member here. I'm having electrical problems with my 2007 Rockwood Premier Tent Trailer. My ceiling dome lights , exhaust fan, and outlets will not work. My Refrigerator, water pump, and Radio work though. I've checked the fuse panel (One 20, two 10, one 15, and one 30 amp fuse) and none are blown. I've also checked the safety switch (red button under the sink) and it seems to be working fine with both wires underneath secure and doesn't stick. The 15 & 20 switches on the fuse panel aren't tripped either. I've also physically checked the wiring and nothing is loose or unplugged. On my last trip I had a cell phone and a Nintendo DS plugged into the outlets and started my 2000 Honda Inverter Generator plugging it in. At that moment the lights, fan, and outlets stopped working. Can someone please help?

I just started my generator again, plugged it in, and the GFCI Outlet tripped and wont reset? Anyone have an answer to this dilemma?

try replacing the outlet first.
still doesn't explain why your 12v stuff(lights/fan)aren't working.
is the battery hooked up? was it replaced recently?

Yes battery is hooked up and yes replaced the battery before my last trip

In the back of the fuse box there are connections for the hot wires to the fuses and a terminal block for the ground wires. It's possible the ground for that circuit is very loose or came out. I would check that first and while you're at it make sure all the connections are tight. Make sure the power is off.

@ Bikendan yes I started having issues after I bought the new Battery...but not immediately after...a few days after

All of the 12v stuff can work with no battery in the unit because of the converter if you are plugged into shore power. (note: any slides will not be able to move in or out or be very very difficult to move with out a battery). I believe that you do have a 110v grounding problem. Be very careful tracing this down and shut the power off before adjusting or tightening or removing any 110v wires.

They might have hooked the converter to one of the GCFI circuits. One never knows does one?

OK...ok....it may not be a grounding problem.... Yada Yada... maybe a source problem.

But I did stay at a Holiday INN once (and never again)

Any chance the portable gen set is putting out low voltage or frequency or combined? Could be damaging equip. Haven't noted where you used it on shore power with better results.

Just a thought...there are some conversations on the forum about grounds and commons on a generator. With the GFCI tripping when generator plugged in, sounds like a grounding/common problem. Do some searching in this area and you may find your answer.

A GFCI receptacle does not require a ground to operate properly only a hot and neutral.

Well its not quite that easy, you really need to read NEC code rules or a licensed electrician. Otherwise your insurance carrier may say "what trailer?"

Been licensed since 1978. It's a standard practice on old houses in the north east with only 2 wires with no ground. Also works on knob and tube wiring.

Thanks for the info guys...I first disconnected the battery...next I replaced the GCFI outlet then reconnected the battery (Note: it has a green light on the face of the plug that shows if there's power or not...the green light was on telling me there's power) I plugged the outer trailer power plug into the running generator this time and the outlet didn't trip...telling me the plug was installed properly. Now, I plugged a digital clock radio into the GCFI outlet but it didn't work. Here's something else, when I unplugged the Generator the green light on the GCFI outlet turned off (telling me the outlets aren't receiving power from the Battery...what the &%$@# is going on?...

I'm with Les on this one.Also- GFI's don't last forever-and need to be replaced sooner than you think.Been there on that one.

The gfci outlet is 115 volts not battery power. The generator will power the outlet. You're checking the wrong power source
