Installing 6v Batteries

I plan on putting 2 to 4 6v batteries in my trailer. Just wondering if others who have done this have added any additional support to the front basement section? Two group 24 batteries = 86 lb currently in trailer. 6v gc / 68 lb ea.

Don’t know!

I had 4 Interstate six volts installed by my dealer.

Barely fit in my Cedar Creek 34RE battery compartment.

I would carefully measure. Your fiver is 3” lounger than mine.

But, to be honest. I never checked to see if they are properly supported! And I have a Structural Engineering background. I Assumed it was ok.

I now know most rv guys are, not trained.

Two Battleborn 100’s would do you and they will fit. Perhaps not your budget. Weigh less than what you have now.

tomkatb, you are correct Battleborns are not in the budget. Space is not the issue as my battery area runs the entire width of the front of my trailer.

You're lucky to have that room! I had to re-arrange things on my tongue to fit a dual 6v box on the battery shelf.

Njkris, I’m not opposed to doing some mods but am curious what others have done to their 5th wheels that have the front basement that runs between the frame i beams.

I think it just depends on how your particular RV was built. Some of my past fifth wheels had to have the battery/basement area reinforced to support extra batteries. Our current RV's compartment is more than sufficient for multiple batteries plus generators. It has 1/16" steel plate with several steel supports welded underneath (square tubing if I remember right).
So take a look underneath yours and I'm betting it will be apparent if you need additional support or not.
Happy Camping!!

Scott, Unfortunately mine only has a piece of what looks to be 20 ga sheet metal tack welded to a piece of L metal running from I beam to ai beam with the front edge having approx 3” brake (bend) screwed to the aluminum frame that supports the front compartment wall. Looks like I will have to get some tube and the welder and get to work
