The sales person was correct. Especially if the switch is mounted horizontally. Water can pool at the bottom and cause a short. I sealed my switch so that water cant get into the contact bolts inside the switch. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I put the switch down, did not buy it, and am now back to the drawing board. Did you get different feedback? Thanks for any advice.

To me water resistance and water proof are two different things. Water resistance can take rain and spray, water residence means you can put it under water. West Marine switches are water residence not water proof.

I would think that if it started to show corrosion, it should be cleaned. It's marine grade, so it should be fine unless you park your battery box under water! :-)
