Intermittent Running Lights on Flagstaff

All,

We are new-bies with popup camping. Hope you can assist...

We've used our new (2011) popup (Flagstaff MAC/LTD 246D) several times. Recently the running lights went out during a trip. We replaced a blown fuse in our truck and had the truck looked at after the fuse blew again. The problem appears to be with the popup not the truck.

We drove the trailer >60 miles to have an authorized dealer trouble shoot this while it is still under warranty, but the problem fixed itself during the trip to the dealer (murphy is alive and well!). The dealer could not find a problem or reproduce it. On the way home from the dealer, the running lights went out again (murphy again!). We can't find any obvious issues with the wires exposed. The brake lights do work.

Any tips or advice on how to trouble shoot this problem with our running lights (we'd like to avoid numerous 120 mi round trips)?

Welcome to the forum !
I believe I would start at the junction box under your pop up hitch.
All connections are made there.
You need a good digital volt ohm meter and a lot of patience.
Start tracing wires and checking for grounded shorts.

Thank you for your quick feedback. Will have to locate the junction box in the manual. But is there a wiring diagram available (don't recall seeing one in the manual)?

They are all wired the same; haphazardly.
No telling what wire codes were being used at the time.

Here is what I think you are looking for.

In trying to track which wire was shorting out in the running lights using the wiring diagram, my husband (giving credit where credit is due) had a great idea. He took all the running light bulbs out, we hooked the truck up and systematically plugged each bulb in until the fuse in the truck blew. For $8 (and a few extra fuses) we were able to track and replace the light fixture with the short.
