inverter not working

2018 Wildwood TT has a Xantrex Freedom X 1200. I recently acquired the trailer and have never used it off of shore power. I'm offshore power now and I need it to work to run my refrigerator but the LCD doesn't light up. The power switch is on and even with the vehicle on or off there's nothing there. Any ideas?

Does the fridge work on shore power?

Which fridge do you have?

Have you looked on the inverter to make sure the gfci or breaker isn't tripped on the unit itself?

You need to check power at the inverter first. Is it getting power into it? Is it getting power coming out of it? Are you seeing an error code on it?

Then move to the fridge's outlet. Is it getting power?

Fridge works on shore power. Power in is good. Box not lighting up. No breakers tripped.

Inverter has a power switch and it is on but the box is not lighting up and no AC power is coming out.
Fridge is a whirlpool. Inverter was factory installed for Fridge.

I called Xantrex, no user replaceable parts must replace. $700+ ... ouch. May need to resort back to ice in the icebox.

Are you looking at the remote panel inside the RV or are you looking at the panel on the side of the inverter itself? It is possible the remote panel is disconnected so it won’t show anything. You say power in is good, did you test the power in or at the inverter? Also check very carefully for a fuse, they sometimes sneak them in where they are hard to find on these type units.

Just about all inverters have a fuse somewhere between the battery and the inverter. Can you clearly see the positive wire connecting the battery and the inverter? It is generally recommended that the fuse be as close to the battery as possible within reason.

How did you check power in?
With a multimeter?
At the connection to the inverter?
What was the voltage?

The first place to start is input power at the inverter. If no multimeter handy here's a simple test "instrument" to see that power is present. Voltage is not so much important as just the fact power is there.

Test lights are simple and easy to use. Not polarity sensitive and easy to make.

If you want to "upscale" this test light just solder the wires to the bulb then wrap the whole thing with tale. Add an alligator clip to the end of one wire and wrap the other end around the body of an ice-pick.

Fully agree with what has already been said. Stop worrying about anything until you confirm that you either have or do not have 12 volt power at the input terminals of the inverter!

The next step will depend on whether there is power or not.

Problem solved. I couldn't believe that someone connected the negative inverter lead to the positive battery terminal. So both leads connected to positive. Fixed that. Incredible that the inverter fired right up and doesn't appear to have been damaged. Must have been incorrectly connected since I purchased the trailer back in September last year!

Trying to be charitable : May have been wired that way deliberately to prevent sucking the battery dry before sale and it was intended to be changed during "dealer prep."

That could very well be. We purchased the trailer from a previous owner who never had it out of the full hook up park. I had looked at the battery set up early on but this particular cable was completely covered with wire protector and I couldn't see the color of the wire at the connection until I disconnected everything to do the inverter replacement. When I checked for power at the inverter, I didn't think to check for energy on the negative.
