Rmack - those led's he has are 360 degree - there is a set of 3 led's on the back like what you see on the front - if they were the flat faced LED's then they would just be faced down

I am guessing that he is using the metal tape to reflect the light down or to protect the fixture from the minimal heat the LED's put out

Sherdep got it! The light is unidirectional this way and there are no dark spots in our trailer. I've tried flat panels and they were too directional.

I had been experimenting with LED's and kinda found the right combo. I have a mixture of 921 bulbs and LED's but once I find the right bulb setup I will go all LED's

I have an assortment of LED's I bought from China - they were cheap enough so experimenting wasn't an issue.

I was recently looking at the flat panel LED's - 5050 cool white with 12 LED's and have seen the one's with 24 LED's - whats your take on them? pushed the light down and not out?

and I prefer the cool white over the soft white

I assume we are switching to LED's to conserve battery life, and then, reduced heat. I suggest read up on the mfg. claimed lumen output per smd's per flat disc. I have found that; assuming claimed lumens are accurate, watt burns is lower as unit price increases. You can see pics of the different circuitry from the mfgs., some look way more elaborate, thus the claimed efficiency. If all your concerned with is the most emmitted light per smd, then go with the most 5630's rather than the 5050's on a disc. IMHO

The wattage used depends on the IC they use and how "hard" (amperage) they drive the LEDs. Everyone is different.

I changed mine primarly for heat

not so much to save electricity but if I decided to dry camp it would save some battery life over the regular 921 bulb

Same as mine. I swapped out any toddler reachable lights to LEDs so the kids wouldn't burn themselves. Be aware that not all LEDs run cool. Some have onboard resistors and tend to run just as hot. Thankfully, mine didn't.
