LED Running Lights

I couldn't find any current threads on this and I wanted to see if there are any new products on the market that anyone has experience with.

I want to replace all the "194" incandescent bulbs with LEDs but I haven't had much luck. I found some "super bright" white LEDs but they were so bright that they drowned out the color from the amber/red lenses. I then tried amber/red LEDs but they stuck out of the socket too far, preventing the lens from snapping back on. I have seen the replacement lenses with build-in LEDs and the full fixture replacements with LEDs but I'd like to just change the lamps if possible.

If you have the Optronics marker lights like most of us do there isn't a whole lot of room inside the lens. I've replaced my 194's with these:

You can also find them on eBay. They are a tad brighter than the standard 194's and fit well under the lens. I installed these on a whim. Here in Alaska during camping season we enjoy 20-23 hours of daylight each day. Never really gets dark, so marker lights are a moot point. Once a year we venture down the slot (Alaska Highway) to the Pacific Northwest. They are useful then.

I tried several replacement bulbs before giving up and replaced the entire fixture. The replacement bulbs were either way to bright or so dim they were useless.
I ended up replacing all marker lights with units that I got from super bright led. It only took me a couple of hours to do the job and get everything sealed up.

I went through the Amazon listings because Walmart and OReilly were so expensive. Avoid anything labeled Super-Brite. I took the shortest (height measurement) LEDs I found on Amazon - something like 10 for just under $10. These fit, but not a lot to spare. They were a little brighter than the 194s, but not too bright to wash out the lens color. The brightness was just enough to let me see the front markers in daylight in the rearview mirror.

I'm not really concerned with making them brighter than they already are with the incandescent lamps, I'm really just trying to eliminate the heat they generate. I've had issues before with the lenses melting on long trips. They start to twist and warp and then water gets inside. Although my TT was marketed as "all LED lighting", Forest River pulled one over on me again. The only LEDs are on the interior.

I've been looking for LED's that would work in the original fixtures as well... ordered some from the Amazon that I thought would work... nope. Too tall... couldn't get the lens back on. Gave up.
