i don't use a surge on it.

Honda EU2000i Security

Just wondering if anyone has the following, with regards to security of the Honda EU2000i generator. I am at a standstill between a security box ~ $380US or the lowpro lockdown ~ $204US currently.

Any feedback would be helpful - Thanks Tom

LowPro LockDown. Keep what’s yours.

I bought the dometic LW3000 it has enough power to run the 13500 ac and is almost as quiet as the honda 3000. We camped this last weekend and used it for running the microwave and coffee maker. The family camping next to us made comments on how quiet it was. Paid $695 on line with free shipping.

There is also a youtube video that demonstrates how to operate it for the A/C. It also has electric key start and weighs around 80lbs. Click image for larger version

Update. I have a Lacrosse 323 rst. I purchased a Champion 3100 inverter generator. It ran the 15,500 dometic air conditioner with no problem. We'll see how well it does for the long term. So far so good. Thanks

I have an older Mitsubishi generator, 4000 MGE that powers my 5'vr really well. It has a noise rating of 68 dba which is loud by today's standards, but when I got it in 1999 it was one of the quietest available. I've seen the numbers on the new inverters but I've never seen anybody give a rating when running in parallel with a second unit. I know the two would have to be louder than one but would they be quieter together than my Mitsubishi.

The professor is back over on rv.net and stated Supergen notified him there is a electric remote start 3100i on the way and they are taking pre-orders now. Link to prof's post.

There is a high altitude jet kit for the 3100i.

I have the 3500/4000 synchronous and it has been bullet proof for many years now. I also have the Twins and yes, under light loads they will run a full 12 hours on ONE gallon of gas each.

There is a altitute jet for the 3000 synchro as well...I have the remote start version and all told it has EVERY feature I could want ...just not super duper quiet nor an inverter....

But I digress. ..as far as the 3100 I would want to see one on my ac first. ...I hear the surge capacity on start is great so of it would run one of my 15k units it may be a better solution than the unwieldy but amazing honda 6500.....

So, I have a 15k a/c on my Avenger. Better to get a 4000W gennie (and if so suggestions?) or parallel two Hondas?

I'd parallel two Hondas, or the manufacturer of your choice. Easier to carry, easier to manage, if you don't need AC you can run just one.

Just too many advantages to it.

We bought the Honda 6500is about a year and a half ago..We started to get two 3000is Hondas because my brother has one as does my friend but they both have 30 amp campers. But our camper is a 50 amp and we decided on getting the one gen instead of the two because it takes up less room, not much but a little. What did surprise us is the the 6500 is a little quitter. We do use ramps to load it into the basement of our 5th wheel. It powers the camper nicely and using the ECO feature I don't believe it uses any more fuel than the 3000 when using the same amount of draw. So far as the quietness issue I believe it has to do with the fact that the 3000 has the heat from the motor and exhaust both coming from the same place and the 6500 has the motor heat and the exhaust coming from separate places.

Help me, y'all! Ken (hubby) says he wants his next generator to be a welder generator. UGH! Aren't those loud and obnoxious?!?!? I want something to run our air conditioner and not deafen me! What can I say to him to change his mind?

YES, as far as i know.
tell him that it won't be allowed in any campground, public or private.

but it would help if you posted what make/model he's thinking about or the noise rating for it. anything over 65db won't be allowed in Nat. Parks and that still would be too loud for many campgrounds.

the only truly appropriate generator in a campground, would be an inverter generator.

Depending on the welder the new Honda 7000i EFI will put out 56 amps at 120v or dual 22 amps at 240v. http://www.wisesales.com/honda-eu7000is-generator.html

While I absolutely LOVED my Yamaha 3000SiB, I can no longer carry it due to the weigh of some required medical equipment and supplies. We are well on the way to a 2 Honda setup with extended run tank (feeds both).

i don't know much about this type of generator but i'll bet it's hella loud. notice it doesn't post the noise level rating.
