New Inverter Generator
I bit the bullet and bought a new Champion 5500/4000 Dual Fuel Inverter Generator from Bass Pro Shops. I had gift cards I had won from Sporting Clays Tournaments and used them to buy it. The wife and I are out in the camper in the yard with the generator powering the camper. Trying to run the first 5 hours on the unit to break it in and change the oil out to synthetic.
The generator is big enough to run the lights, AC, And Microwave all at the same time. I’m strictly running it on propane so as not to have to worry with ethanol issues. It sounds quit enough to me for campground use. So far, I like it.

The rated noise level is 74 db, which is not all that quiet. That 74 db is when it is running between idle and 1/4 load. At full power I bet it will be well over 80 db. Not really something that you want to run in a campground.

I think you're looking at the wrong generator. Champion says its noise rating is 61db at 23ft.

The OP did say an inverter generator.

You must be looking at the open frame Champion generator inverter. Mine is rated at 61 db which is quiet enough to stand beside and talk to another person. It runs in eco mode even when running the AC. It ramps up when the microwave is turned on.

I have the same one and really like it. What does suck is the proprietary propane quick connector. I hooked ours up to a 300-gal propane tank so had to build my own propane hose with adjustable regulator. I was supposed to test it out this weekend but never made it up to the trailer. Hopefully next weekend I can see if it works.

Good to know. I need a quick connect hose that will quick connect to my TT quick connect. Where did you get your quick connect ends to make your own hose?

Here’s a picture of it.
The plastic thumb presses a switch under the propane inlet, presumably as a safety mechanism to make sure it is properly seated. The problem is this is a proprietary fitting for this generator only.
At first I created my own “thumb” using a thick piece of copper I could bend to match the plastic piece. That worked but wasn’t my final solution.
I ordered a second regulator from Champion and cut the end off and joined it to a long propane hose to reach our big tank with an adjustable regulator in-line. I just made the hose and will try it out this weekend, so hopefully it all works.

MAKING A PROPANE HOSE TO HOOK TO YOUR RV PROPANE SUPPLY LINE AND CHAMPION GENERATOR
Just found this on the forum from 2018. There is nothing magical about the male quick connect for the propane hose unless you have the safety switch that requires the thumb to push the safety button.
https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ne-153043.html
The above link on the FR Forum was also referenced on the Grand Design forum with more detailed instructions and parts list in this thread
https://gdrvowners.com/forum/propane...ropane-adapter
The same information is shared on the airstream forum. This would be a good sticky as more and more people are purchasing Champion Inverter Generators.

Just curious. The quick connect on the generator end looks like a normal quick connect. That big "safety valve" is to prevent flow if the engine is not running. OK. All out grills, fire pits,... do not have such a device. Could you not then just hook up a typical XX foot hose directly to the generator?

Congratulations on your new generator!
We bought the 4,500 w dual fuel model for backup at the house and love it. The 61db is really quiet and even quieter when not under load. We don't ever plan to use it on gasoline, but the option is there if we need it. These new generators are amazing.
We haven't done it, but Champion does have a Ready Parallel Kit that enables you to connect two of these 2800 or larger inverters which gives you a 50 amp rv outlet (capable of operating two rv ac's according to Champion)

I changed the oil in the new generator today. I ran it the first time for about 2 hours and again yesterday for another 3 hours to break it in. I fluctuated the power demand on it. The break-in oil that it came with was very shiny and metallic. I changed over to 5w30 Full Synthetic oil. I ran it for about 15 minutes to circulate the oil. I’ll top it off tomorrow after it has a good night to settle. I’m Still liking the new generator.

Actually you can connect 2500 watt inverters with 3500 watt inverters or any of their inverter generators with compatible connectors. (round instead of square)
Champion has a compatibility tool on their website and the only limitation with the smaller ones is that some models have different connectors.
I just bought a champ 2500w inverter to use just for winter camping. Charge batteries when no sun and it's quiet enough to run all night if really cold and I need some supplemental heat in my outside kitchen.
I got the parallel kit so I can use both it and my 3500w for backup at the house.
I'll take the 3500w unit along when i need A/C
