New mod

Hey everyone, Greetings from the Great Northwest. It looks as though, we're in for 20 days of 40's and low 50's. Been a cold winter, nice change. Anyway I have a couple of questions.....I have a '15 FR T181BHXL

I'm going to intercept the battery cables, run them through the front of my TT and connect them to the board, under my sofa. Then install the Trimetric 2030 and two 12v plugs for electronics in the living room. All of the additions will be powered through the fuse box and bus. My first question is do I need a fuse or circuit breaker behind the Shunt and what kind/size? I'm not a 12 volt guy so any help would be appreciated. Next question, is there a front and back side to the shunt. That's it, thanks in advance and come on spring..... More snow in the mountains is good, rain in town is ok too.

I use this style

This type of circuit breaker in manually resettable and come in several different Amp sizes. Put this inline between you main batterys and your shunt setup. Depending on your total load get the right amperage setting. I used 50A on my last Jeep project.

I have got a lot of learning to do, I'm not good on electrical, I'm going to have to go real slow. What is a shunt? What is a good price for a Trimetric 2030?

I'm no expert but having just installed the 2030rv and shunt, I understand from all the reading that the shunt should be installed close to the batteries.
The image is a screen grab of a previous post. Shows a very elegant way of wiring in your shunt.

My batteries are on the A frame in front of the TT but I didn't want to leave the shunt and cable from the 2030 outside. So I decided to put in a weatherproof box on the front of the TT. That will allow me access for solar or other mods in the future. I know the Shunt is supposed to be the first load from the battery, that's why I was going to install the circuit breaker behind the shunt. Will the circuit breaker take any current? BTW I just bought my 2030 from John Drake Services of solarseller.com 562-423-48 seven 9 for $149 delivered.

You don't need to install a breaker in the ground path. There are already beakers in the positive side for your loads.

There is no specific direction for the shunt but once you put it in you need to put the Trimetric leads on the right screws. Two wires on the side towards the batteries and one on the ground side of the shunt.

Keep it as close to the battery negative as possible.

Thanks Scott..... just what I'm trying to verify....I've looked at resettable circuit breakers and they run from $8, to $200+. My board will be the first thing from the batteries but only 3ft away (as the crow fly's)

I can't take credit for that set up. I put my shunt inside a waterproof box attached to my battery box. After affixing the box, running the wires etc, I saw that image for the shunt install. I think it's a fantastic way to do the shunt install. Wish I'd thought of it.

PS. Batteries on the tongue as well.
