Newbie question

Hi all, today we finished our first boondocking trip, it was great. 3 days total.

I borrowed my friends generator to charge the TT batteries, but my EMS would not allow the power through due to error code E2, which I believe is Open Ground.

Question is, could I have hooked up the generator directly to the battery posts and charged them directly? I have 2 12V batteries which are what the dealer installed. The generator has wires for charging batteries, but I didn't know if:

A: can I charge the batteries when they are hooked up in parellel and

B: will it hurt the WFCO power center to charge the batteries directly.

Thanks!!

A. Yes.
B. No.

However, it's difficult to get a decent charge directly from the generator. For future reference on how to run a portable generator through your EMS, check out this thread regarding ground neutral bonding.

Thank you Yarome. I had seen that solution but my generator only has one AC outlet so I don't think that will work. Am I missing something?

It will if you use a power bar on your generator and plug trailer and ground neutral bonding plug into it.
