No 110AC without 12vDC?

I've got a FR VLight, 2013, new to me.
I'm tracking down some electrical issues, I know I need to replace the 12v charge controller, as it's just dead.

But when I disconnect the 12v batteries (via switch or having them off the system) I also loose my AC - why is that? [I'm really trying to learn the electrical system, not just take it to the shop and stay uninformed]

Isn't there a 110 to 12v converter in the power panel that should power the 12v when a battery isn't connected?

1. is it part of the same charge controller that I know is dead
2. am I looking to replace a 110 to 12v converter as a second part.

Is there a way to get the original parts and replacement parts list from Forest river?

Pretty easy.

Put your voltmeter on the battery. Should be 12-12.6 volts. Thermostat might work on less.

When plugged in the converter is usually a minimum of 13 volts measured at the battery.

Not sure what the charge controller is. Usually that is a solar thing. If you have a panel then on a sunny day the voltage will be over 13.

Yes the thermostat is usually dc.

Not for sure what you are calling a 12v charge controller? If you have a stand alone converter that makes 12vdc out of shore power, that would be the reason that the 12vdc items do not work with the battery disconnected. Some of the items in your unit require 12vdc for the control of the item, as well as AC shore power. An example of the this your AC and the frig, both items need 12vdc for the control board as well as 120vac for the unit to operate.
I would replace the 12vdc charge controller and then retry all of the items.

Yes, the thermostat uses 12 volts to operate..same for furnace.

Are you asking about the air conditioner or the 110V outlets?

Your thread title says "110ac" which to me means 110V alternating current like your house uses.

Basics: the converter takes your 120VAC shore power and makes 12VDC to charge the battery and run the 12V stuff in the trailer.

Inverter takes the 12VDC from the battery and makes 120VAC.

When you say that you loose your AC when you disconnect the battery are you talking about the air conditioner or the 120V outlets? If its the air conditioner, then as noted, it needs 12V to run the thermostat. If its the outlets, you need the battery connected so the inverter can make the 120VAC.

Joe, I'm not sure a 2013 trailer would have an inverter.
