Predator Generator 3500 Watt Parallel Kit

Glad to be on the forum. Seems like a great resource for the community.

In this case, I have purchased a Predator 3500 Watt generator and it has parallel capability. I have not purchased an additional unit yet but would like the option to make it a 50 Amp RV plug unit but I cannot locate the parallel kit to do so.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the parallel kit? Thanks for the help.

When I last contacted Harbor Freight direct, (last fall) they informed me it was "coming soon." The parallel kit for the 2000w will NOT work.

We have had a report on this forum of someone using a Honda kit to parallel two Predator 3500 units.

Welcome!

parallel kit

I read that as well. I m not a electrical guru so I wanted to make sure I did not blow it up in the process.

I just smoked a champion with a parallel kit at the Nascar race last weekend but those were the 2000 watt models, so I figured I would upgrade to 3500 watt model so I did not have to use a kit at all and maybe get another generator in the future to boost my power if needed it in the future.

Thanks for the information. Ill keep checking.

Curious as to how you 'smoked' the Champion with a parallel kit?

I follow many forums where generators are discussed and I've not seen one instance of someone doing damage to the generator(s) by using them in parallel.

I hooked the Champions up in series and i believe that I had a back feed from a rental toy hauler unit and the generator outlets stopped functioning for some reason.

Since then, the rental person told me there was a master reset under the refrigerator but the last thing I wanted to do was start taking the rental apart while it was 98 degrees outside on the infield. You can imagine how that was sleeping at night. haha

In any case, even if I could reset the rental, the generator itself was damaged. I have it in for service due to the warranty but I wanted to eliminate the hassle for Sturgis this year and just use 1 unit.

There were a lot of the Predator units on the infield and they were running 5th wheels with no issue so the proof was in the performance in this case, so I pulled the trigger and bought the Predator. It was marked down to $699 until July 31.

I do not believe it was caused by the kit perse, but I decided to upscale the generator as to not have to parallel them at all, but wanted to option in the future incase I borrowed my fathers toy hauler, which he has a 50 Amp unit with dual AC units.

The Predator seems to be a good unit and your assessment of those running 5th wheels in the infield falls in line with what has been reported here.

There is a thread around here of a fellow with a food truck running two 3500's pretty much non stop and he has reported super results from them.

FWIW... when you go to buy the 2nd, they on occasion have them locally in our store for $649. (coupon is old but simply the last one I saved)

I saw that coupon in the past threads and will certainly wait for the sale to hit $649. That is a good deal and leaves room to purchase the 2 year warranty and you stay under $800.

Thanks

The LARGER 3500 kits?

My store still only stocks the kits for the smaller models.

Yeah!

My local only has the smaller kits as well and if someone had the bigger ones, I would purchase immediately.

Did you really hook them up in series? Lucky you just blew up the generators and not all the electronics in the toy hauler. Series would double the voltage, putting 240v AC where 120v AC should be. You should hook them in parallel, with a parallel kit so they don't fight with each other.

Sorry, I mispoke, I meant parallel with the kit. I typed series on accident.

OK... so I just got off the phone with the contact at Harbor freight that I spoke with last fall. They still DO NOT offer the parallel kit for the 3500 but he again, indicated it was to be released "soon." Draw your own conclusions. I was told that last fall too.

He did recommend two 'approved' parallel kits for the predator 3500.
Here are the links he emailed to me...

Firman 1201 Parallel Kit

DuroMax XP3150PK 120-Volt 50-Amp Portable Inverter Generator Parallel Kit

A quick Google search found these available at other sites for less money than the manufacturers site.

Northern Tool carries the Power Horse brand generators (essentially the HF Predator in a blue case) and they have the 3500 parallel kit on sale for 49.99 see link https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...0537_200660537

This should be what you are looking for to parallel 2, 3500's.....

Swampy,

I saw that kit as well but it is compatible with a 5-50R (3 pin) plug and the one i require is a 14-50P 4 pin.

It's almost there but missing 1 prong.

thanks for looking though.

Question on my Predator 3500.

I have 30 amp service and when I use the adapter and plug the cord directly into it from my trailer no problem

But if I plug my surge suppressor into the generator I get a bad indication light and it doesn't pass the electricity through.

Friend suggested bits a ground issue and I need to tires a ground wire on the Predator ground lug to the camper frame?

I'm wondering if other Predator 3500 users have experience d this?

I don't use my surge suppressor when hooked to generator. No need.
It's campground power you need to worry about.
