Re-assurance needed...
Hello everyone, I have a quick question about the 30amp service I installed outside of my garage. Let me describe what I did, I installed a single pole, 30amp, 120v breaker in the breaker box, ran 10/2 W/G wire out to a 30amp RV specific outlet in a weather proof box (Lowes). I hooked all of this up and checked the voltage at the outlet and it was 119.6, I plugged in a 25’ 30amp cord and I got 119.4 at the end of that. Where I am confused is I have read a lot of folks talking about using 110v max. Am I going to mushroom cloud my new TT if I plug into this 120v outlet? Keep in mind that I plan on installing a surge protector before plugging into anything. This leads to my next question, to me it makes sense to hardwire this surge protector in-line BEFORE the convertor and breaker box, is this correct? Thanks for your time!

110V and 120V are both generic names for the same thing. The actual voltage may range from about 109 to 122.

Hard wiring it in before the converter will protect the converter.

A Power Protection systemshould be wired in as close to the pedestal as possible. If it's a portable unit, at the pedestal. If it's a hard-wired unit, right where the power cord comes into your RV.

I went ahead and ordered the PI surge protector here, 30-amp Surge Protector with Voltage Protection - Progressive EMS-HW30C - Surge Protectors - Camping World
Looks fairly easy to install, tips or advice of any type would be appreciated. I’ll certainly have more peace of mind hooking up. My TT isn’t even built yet and I’m buying all this stuff for it

My Surgeguard will cut power to the camper if the voltage exceeds 132v or drops below 102v, as well as open neutral. Within this range is acceptable. The LCD displays real time voltage coming in to the camper.

Your SurgeGuard has a very similar function to the Progressive Industries unit that he ordered. Yours has a one year warranty (and is made overseas somewhere). His has a Lifetime warranty and is made in USA.

Ok, back on topic here. I just received my PI EMS and I was going through the install instructions, it all looks pretty straight forward. My only question is; it has two options, one is install before the
" transfer box", the other is install after the transfer box. What is a transfer box and what is the difference? Thanks!

The transfer box in question on the PI instructions is in reference to a generator transfer switch. If your unit came with a generator, than it most likely has a transfer switch installed. If it does not have a generator than you probably don't have a transfer switch.
