Reading Lamp Repair/Replace

I'm looking for advice on how to repair/replace the "spotlight" type of reading lamp that is located on the underside of the cabinetry over the top of our couch.

The problem with the lamp is that the switch has become non-functional. I either need to replace the switch or the lamp, whichever is easiest.

But, I cannot see any way to remove the lamp so that I can take it apart and examine it. I believe that there must be some sort of "false" bottom in the overhead cabinet that hides the mounting screws and the wiring. But, I cannot see any way to remove the false bottom. The cabinet is only about 6 or 8 inches high. Am I going to have to remove the entire cabinet from the ceiling?

I'd appreciate any ideas or direct experience anybody might have.

Thanks,
Rick
