Could you explain that a bit further? I have never been questioned about my generator, and never seen any posting in regard to type of generators, just operating times allowed.

Thanks,

I agree the poor man's generator isn't a perfect solution, but it is functional.

As for generators in federal parks - for starters they must meet spark-arrester rules, which the cheap ones don't have. 2nd, if they are too loud, and all of the cheap ones are, they can tell you to shut it down.

Here's a start. The generator must be equipped with an approved spark arrestor. USFS INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR SPARK ARRESTERS

Spark arresters, yes. That I knew. Honestly in the past twenty years or so, never seen a generator without one. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. But I never go into a Harbor Freight store either.

As for noise. I have read that there is a max db for gens in National park campgrounds, but from my experience they do not enforce it. Reason told to me was they have no working db meters.

A few years ago in Glacier, I was BS'ing with an LE Ranger that I knew, the guy next to us started up a generator that was loud enough to be heard in Yellowstone, and the ranger and I had to walk down the road to continue our talk.

But thanks for the reply Flybob...

I was not implying anything, my comment on approved generators was made after reading the reference to a Harbor Freight $100 unit.
