Replacing AC flex cable to slide-out

Good afternoon,

I had an AC electrical issue earlier this year which I narrowed down to a short somewhere along the AC run to the slide-out's AC outlet. I ended up disconnecting that line from the outlet it was daisy-chained from, and moved on with life .

Anyway, I finally found where the second junction is for the flex cable that runs from the slide to the main body of the camper. It has these weird adapters on it, half shown in the attached picture. How would I go about replacing this flex cable? Do I need to buy a new wire with adapters pre-installed, or are these adapters serviceable so I would just need to buy a new length of S0OW cable, open up the junction connectors, and screw the three wires in place?

I can't seem to find the "adapter" anywhere, hoping someone may know what it's proper name is.

Thanks!

There should be a name and maybe a model on the connector. If you can get some info off the connector we can help you better.

See if it looks like this Nonmetallic Splice, 14 to 12 AWG Wire

Bama Ramblers link is for the commonly used connector in R/Vs for ROMEX type cable.

You keep saying "flex cable" and even mentioned SOOW cable. That wire is different than Romex. Romex has solid strand wires and SOOW has multi-stranded wires.

It appears the wire going into the white connector you posted a photo of is Romex.
Are you saying there is SOOW wire connected to the other side of the connector?

Exactly what are you trying to connect/splice?

Molex is the brand that is used in most RV's. Look at attached .pdf file for different types. Many can be found on ebay etc..Different colored snap on tops for different sized gauges of wire and romex and SJ type of black rubber cord.

Yes - I believe the flex cable which runs from the other side of this connector to the outlet on my slide-out is shorted. I'm looking to replace the flex cable and trying to determine if I need to buy a pre-made cable, or a cable and new ends, or if the connectors are reusable. I'll take another look at the connector in the wall of the slide-out and see if I can get model / part numbers and go from there. The picture attached above is the one buried inside the underbelly of the camper.

Stranded wire makes sense for the slide out. Solid Romex would eventually break from the bending. And tying it to the flex with a connector is a lot cheaper/faster than putting in a junction box.

OK great, just wanted to be sure I knew what you are trying to accomplish.

Many R/Vs do use these types of connections to transition from nonmetallic Romex type cable to flexible SOOW cable. You can find these online many places but hopefully you can get to yours and get it apart.
