Replacing lights with LED fixtures

One of our overhead lights bit the dust, and we are thinking of just replacing it with a LED fixture. It is the double pancake type of light using incandescent bulbs. Is this difficult to do ourselves, or should we have a professional?

Also any recommendations on brand, etc for the LED?

Pull the old one out and push the new one in...... My DW showed me how to do it......


I hated the hue of the light and removed the LED and put a standard bulb back it.

That was only a fault with the brand of LED bulb-replacement - there are some with really horrible color index ones out there and cost is not always a good indicator.

The ones FR is using now are top-notch - I can't tell the difference from the heating-elements-with-a-light-byproduct in my old TT, and neither can my wife's camera...



That's six pots, two pendants and two ceiling domes - probably using less power and producing less heat than your one incandescent.

anitag, it is very easy to replace with LEDs. Just hold the plastic base and pull the bulb out. I am assuming that you have the 921 bulbs that are the most common. The first time I did it I thought I broke the bulb but that is how you do it, just pull the bulb out. The new LED is just pushed back into the base. You will have to experiment with the bulbs. Some are very bright and seem almost too harsh. Some are a softer yellow color but may not be bright enough. It gets a little costly trying bulbs out until you find what you like. I just keep the extras as spares.

gonna do a little dry camping this summer, so found some led lights on ebay. 10 for $32. just pop out the (hot and energy draining) 921 halogen lights and pop in the leds. they are bright white, but I can live with them
