The first upgrade I did on my previous travel trailer was to replace the entire WFCO power center with a Progressive Dynamics, and to upgrade to 2x 6-volt golf cart batteries. I need to power 2 CPAPs all night long when camping with the DW. On my previous setup, I could get 2 nights out of the batteries.
Got my new travel trailer (it's Venture RV, not Forest River, hope I don't get banned!
) Moved the golf cart batteries from old trailer to new trailer. I get 1 night usage and voltage goes down to about 12.1-12.3. Recharged most of the day using built in WFCO converter and generator. After about 1 hour rest and moderate load on the battery, I had only went up to about 12.6 volts, and next morning was down to 12.0 volts. So the WFCO 8955 just didn't seem to be able to keep up.
Second trip, by myself so only 1 CPAP. This time I took along an automobile smart battery charger. After first night with just my CPAP, down again to around the 12.2 volt range. This time turned off the battery disconnect switch and connected the automotive smart battery charger. Charging voltage was like 14.4 (WFCO converter would only do 13.3). After the second night, my batteries were at 12.5 volts so I easily had another night left in them.
Now in the process of removing just the WFCO converter section and replacing it with another Progressive Dynamics. The WFCO does not have the bulk charging mode that Progressive Dynamics do. My converter was supposed to arrive yesterday, so I started pulling out the old converter. New converter got delayed in shipment, so here I am, the the trusty automotive smart charger hooked in where the converter would normally connect:
