Safety Alert Sensor

I just had to replace my Safe-T-Alert 25-741 carbon monoxide/propane alarm in my Wildwood X-Lite 171RBXL. It expired the first day of a 10 day trip so a friend cut the wires to make it stop beeping. We replaced the sensor today and found we now have no current to the wires. Does anyone know if there is a fuse to the sensor wires and where that would be?

Never mind - I finally found the right fuse!

Yep, and I bet he chopped both wires at the same time. Thus he shorted them together in the cutting process. That took out the fuse as designed.

As I've said and written before, there are two types of folks: (a) those that know what they are doing, and (b) those that think they know what they are doing.

Seems your friend is a type B person.

Yes, that is exactly what my electrician cousin told me probably happened. Luckily I had a spare 3 amp fuse and everything is working once again! But in defense of my friend that snipped the wires, he saved me a 10 day camping trip of having the alarm beeping lol

I'm glad you got it resolved, even if requiring a new fuse. I have the same Wildwood 171RBXL. Where was the fuse you replaced? Was it the one in the power center under the fridge, or was it inline somewhere else?

Glad you have the issue resolved.

As to your friend, what do you think would have happened if that had been a 120-volt line? You could be attending his funeral. Otherwise, one should know simply removing the 12-volt fuse would have stopped the alert beeping. He is definitely a (b) type!

TO ALL RV'ers, and I say again. You must know where every fuse and circuit breaker is located and what each one controls. And more importantly, know what systems are protected by the fuses and what systems are protected by circuit breakers. That's everything both 12 volts and 120 volts.

I boldly will say, if you don't know this information, then keep your rig in the dang driveway.

Not really. You could have disabled the alarm by finding the correct fuse.

We had to do that once for a day, but it's really dangerous. Campers don't wake up when a co (odorless gas) overwhelms them in the middle of the night. Not to mention the possibility of a propane leak and explosion.
We carry a battery operated co/propane detector as a backup.

Glad you got it fixed and nothing happened in the meantime.

I say congratulations on figuring out the problem and resolving it through a bit of learning. Lord knows I do it too.

We all should be constantly learning, and lecturing those who are less experienced who actually solved their own problem seems really counterproductive.

I am not singling out anyone in particular, but let's remember we're a community of friends here, and we're all always learning.

I think that's what everyone was trying to do...pointing out teachable moments.
We're all glad he avoided tragedy.

It was the fuses under the fridge and was a 3 amp.

For all the comments - the power was disconnected before the wires were snipped and the propane was turned off for the rest of the trip.
