Satellite Dish Install 2016 Forester

Hi,
About to buy a Dish Playmaker and a Wally. Two questions:
1. If I decide to roof mount how do I find the roof support cross members to drill/screw into? Or, can I get away with just gluing to the roof?
2. Any trouble with running the Wally off an inexpensive inverter powered by the cigarette lighter socket?
Thanks,
Bob Schoner

You're thinking of mounting a Playmaker permanently to the roof? I suppose you could but it was not designed for that scenario. It's a carryout. Don't know current draw for the Wally.

Mounting Playmaker on roof

Hi,
Winegard's web site says:
The new DISH Playmaker antennas are compatible with the TR-1518 Tripod Mount and the RK-4000 Roof Mount Kit. The Roof mount kit allows you to mount the DISH Playmaker or DISH Playmaker Dual to the vehicle roof making it easy to store and always ready to use.

Knew about the tripod and ladder mounts but I blinked and there's something new (at least to me). Hope it works out for you.

Remember one of the great benefits of the tripod mount is you can often park in shaded areas and still find a clearing to get a signal. If it’s on the roof you have to stay out of the trees. My brother has very expensive roof mount but still uses his tailgater for that reason.

Don't even need the tripod. Waste of money. Just set it on the ground, roof, table, whatever with an open view of the southerly sky. Doesn't even have to be exactly level.

Roof Mount Playmaker

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. My plan is to try it on the ground to see how it works and how much trouble it is to pack it up every time we go into town or exploring away from the base camp. I don't tow a car.
I was asking about the roof mount for planning purposes.
No one has answered about running the Wally off a small inverter. Since these inverters produce a "modified sine wave" I was wondering if this was a problem.
Thanks,
Bob

the dish will get it's power from the coax to the box and yes you can run the box off an inverter also with TV . not sure the watts of the box but the tv not knowing what size you have is probably not more then 150w or less . so get an inverter that will handle both once you find out the draw of the box or wally etc
