solar controller and generator connection / operation

Can I run the generator and have the solar controller connected to the battery at the same time. My sense is the controller and the DC charging system would be in parallel and fight each other? Do I risk damaging one or the other?

It would be a pain to disconnect the controller every time I want to power an AC appliance ( coffee maker or vacuum during the daylight.

Since I've no idea of your components or wiring, I'm reluctant to say no worries but generally, solar input can happen at the same time as others.

The solar controller will adjust it's output.

There should not be any issues. The generator is the same as shore power for the batteries, so if it works on shore power it will work on generator. Using the generator as shore power would be preferable to using 12v out if the generator provides it (not as common).
