Surge guard 34830 failure
I just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone else has experienced failure with their Southwire Surge Guard 30A surge protector.
This last weekend, I loaded up, unplugged the surge protector and left the house. Arriving at the campground, 30A service wasn't available so I tested the 20A with my GFI tester. The outlet tested as normal and I plugged in the surge protector. It instantly read "Reverse Polarity".
I then attempted to run it off my generator (that has been used many times successfully on our trailer) and again got a message "Reverse Polarity".
After arriving back home, I tested 2 other outlets at my house with the GFI tester showing normal but the surge protector read "Reverse Polarity".
I'm convinced that the surge protector has failed but my question is why and how?
The surge protector has spent it's life in 3 place:
1. plugged in at my house in the garage.
2. In the pass through compartment during transport
3. Plugged into a campground pedestal.
I'm a bit disappointed and frustrated that a $225 part failed "just because" after less than 2 years of normal use.
Any thoughts?
