That offers no protection against over or under voltage situations. You should look into the "Power Protection" (EMS) units at the earlier link. Those are "Made in USA" and have a Lifetime warranty. What you're looking at has a 1-year warranty (and isn't).

We do not have a surge protector is it really a must we didn't have one with our old camper?

I wouldn't hook up without an EMS unit. It checks the polarity and voltage before it passes the voltage to the camper and has surge protection. It also has a remote display so you can always check the voltage, frequency and what I really use a lot, amps. It's good to know when you are getting close to max such as when using the AC, coffee pot and water heater etc. I have camped through a lot of thunderstorms and it's nice not having to worry about the electric.

Its the first thing I plug in when I get to a site - before I do anything else. If the electric doesn't check out I request another site. Gave me peace of mind the last time we were out when the a storm knocked out the transformers in the park we were staying in.

Its a little pricey, but compared to the cost of replacing appliances and electronics, it's cheap insurance.

X2. And hardwire eliminates the possibility of theft. 3 wires and about an hour, and peace of mind. Made in USA and warranty is a additional benefit.

If all you afford is a surge protector than that is better than nothing.

If you can pay a little more then go with a power protector.
I did not have anything on my 1st fifth wheel and burned up 2 converters
When I bought my motorhome I went with an EMS-HW50C. I paid 284.00 including shipping. It is a hardwire type. I don't have to worry about someone stealing it. A little pricey but a great piece of mind.
You can buy boxes that protect you device from thieves but the why not install a hardwire unit. Just a thought.

We went with the Progressive Industries EMSPT50C, a much better unit than the ssp. We secure in with a python type master locking cable. I bought my locking cable years ago and it has two differemt lengths of cable that can be used. I just cinch it to the power pedestal. Here's a link to one.

I have the PT30c and I use a bicycle lock to keep honest people honest. I wrap it around the pedestal and below the pedestal box cover/door. I sleep well knowing I'm protected.

While 'better than nothing' the unit you linked to only provides 510 joules of protection, versus 2450 joules on the better model 30 amp Surge Guard.
Quite a difference in price ($239 vs. $69) but worth every penny.
The better unit also provides a time delay in analyzing circuits which also prevents your A/C unit from short-cycling in the event of a brief power interruption.

This is the lock (gun locks) that I use. (2) one for the portable surge protector and one for the power cord.

It's good for what it does, but you really need something that does more. The function that one is missing is to protect you from over-voltage and under-voltage situations (by turning the power off to your RV when that occurs). The is what the EMS units provide. The SSP unit protects against spikes (induced by lightening) and allows you to check for wiring problems at the pedestal (if you follow installation instructions). (The SSP unit will not protect you from damage from plugging into a 240v outlet either, which seems to occur more than you would expect.)

You asked earlier about why you needed one when you've never had one on your older campers before. Your older RV probably didn't have all the electronics in it that the newer ones do.

In general, in my research, the PT30C offers better protection than its little brother - the SSP30 - but for 2 1/2 time the cost (when I bought).

For this cost, you get protection against higher levels (Joules and Amps) and things like over/under voltage, open neutral, and reverse polarity protection, accidental 220v protection, automatic reset, etc.

The SSP units also allow the user to do open neutral and reverse polarity testing, but won't protect against one of these happening because some tech mis-wires something after you're already connected.

We had a lightning strike in or near the park last night. Our surge protector tripped immediately. Glad I had the protection, I do not know if any of the TT around me had any damage. The cost of the unit is worth the peace of mind when you do get a spike.
