On an Onan 4000 KY generator, where would I find the transfer switch?
I have power at the generator but it is not getting to the mh. 120ac from the house works, but nothing from the generator. Goshen is coming quick...HELP!!!!!

(hanging head) it is a non Forest River BUT it is not mine it is a Fourwinds made in 2000. It is my Dad's and we need help. Will do the breaker in the morning. Thanks

Are you sure the MH has a transfer switch? On some you manually plug the power cord into a recepticle powered by the generator.

The generator is hard wired.

I don't know your level of DIY skills with this, so pardon me if the following is elementary.

On our Sunseeker the transfer switch is under the bed.

If you don't find a receptacle to plug the shore line into, follow the shore line into the coach. If there is an automatic transfer switch, it will go to the transfer switch. The cable from the generator also goes to the transfer switch and another cable goes from the transfer switch to the electrical distribution panel.

If you can't follow the shore line into the coach, maybe you can follow the cable backwards from the electrical distribution panel to the transfer switch. It will be the only 10 AWG 2 conductor with ground Romex (household type for 120 volt AC) cable connected to the panel.

Not knowing the exact type on your motorhome here is a generic explanation - Power from the generator and shore power enter this box. It's purpose to to stop the generator power and shore power from running at the same time.

The transfer switch is normally automatic (could be manual) - it is usually a gray box about 8"x 8". On most I have seen the generator is default - If plugged into AC power and running the generator the generator circuit takes preference. This is done to stop accidentally trying to run he generator and shore power at the same time - generator damage results.

Knowing this it normally would work on the generator - if you can find the transfer switch and remove the cover (power off) there are usually two large relays - check the contacts on the relays - clean if necessary. Start the generator and see if a relay actuates - turn generator off and plug into shore power and see if a relay actuates.
