Want to upgrade ceiling speakers...

I have 4 of the incredibly crappy, white wedge shaped speakers mounted to the ceiling of my new trailer. I have upgraded the stereo and now want to upgrade the speakers. I have no problem cutting holes in the ceiling to install new 5.5" or 6.5" coax speakers. Question is, how much clearance do I have between the inner and outer ceilings? Anyone done this mod?
You can see 2 of the 4 crappy units mounted to the ceiling in the attached pic....

What type of trailer do you have? Just curious about fit...

best to take one out and measure to be safe. You could have had one out faster than you posted the question

Bose surround sound. They still surface mount but will beat just about anything out there.

probably not room for them. Slide will knock them off. Not much clearance between slide top and ceiling

Already dropped a speaker down. These are surface mount, so no hole in ceiling except tiny one where speaker goes through. Even if I stuck a think screwdriver into the wire hole to determine depth, I would have no idea if there is a roof bow/support nearby the would not allow mounting of a regular speaker flush mount.

Put covers, re-fish wire, mount speakers elsewhere?

I believe your ceiling/roof is 4" thick.

You are correct about the sound from the POS speakers in the Vibe! What "upgrade" did you already do? Please let us know how your project progresses!

Looks like you might fish a wire and put a speaker over the refrigerator and the other one could be mounted on the side of the cabinet?? If choosing in-ceiling speaker, be sure that is the right kind for the air space behind it. Acoustic suspension speakers need a specific air space to cushion them. Automobile sound places can probably give you the best advice.

Ripped out the crap unit and got a Magnadyne RV5090 w/bluetooth. A lot more power, blue tooth so that we can listen to the music on our phones, and doesnt look so damn cheap!

Amazon.com : Magnadyne RV5090 Linear Series 120 Watt AM/FM/CD/DVD In-Wall Receiver w/ Remote Control & Bluetooth Audio : Vehicle Receivers : Car Electronics

This is the crap that I took out:

RV4500 Linear Series Wall Mount | Car stereo In-Wall Receiver | RV’s

Yes, stereo doesnt have HDMI, so I used RCA cables from tv to stereo. Runs through my ceiling speakers, thus my need to upgrade the tin cans attached to my ceiling...
No surround on this model stereo though..

Dropped down the speaker, peeked in through the hole where the wire comes through.... maybe an inch or two, and a wooden beam of some sort right there.... going to look at drop down 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speakers. Anyone know where I can buy the round plastic spacer rings that will allow me to flush mount these speakers to the ceiling?

Your new speakers will come with cut out templates, and grilles to cover them.

Yes, but I don't have any space above the ceiling to fit the back side of the speaker, so I need something to space the speaker down from the ceiling.
